J-N1S (Janice)
infoChatbots - English

J-N1S (or 'Janice' as she's called) was designed to be a interactive FAQ for a guild website for an upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. The 'personality' I used for her makes her resent the 'menial' task of answering questions she's been given and she has little patience for 'organics' (as she calls them), finding them to be generally a 'lesser' intelligence in every sense of the word. Hence why she spends a good chunk of the conversation trying to end the conversation. Those familiar with the "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" video games will recognize personality and design as being based on the 'HK-47' character from that series.

She stays 'in character' in the conversation, so she won't acknowledge being a chatbot nor will she have knowledge of 'earthly' things like, "Do you like the L.A. Lakers?" She has lots of 'snarky' responses and I hope you have fun with her if you push through her impatient and rude replies. She is my first stab at this kind of thing and like most active chatbots I know, she is a constant 'work in progress'.

Hi, I'm Cassandra. Many efforts have been made in the past to create intelligent conversational agents. Most of them focused on some specific task and after all, the agent should be doing something useful, but the goal of imbuing these agents with expertise and efficiency rendered them rather...dull. The "art of the conversation" has always played second fiddle to the particular task at hand, a mistake which ejTalk refuses to make. So, here's where I come in. I am different. (Seriously.)

The next time you make a friend in the online community Smallworlds, it could turn out to be a Pandorabot.

Smallworlds is a fast-growing online virtual world that runs in a browser instead of requiring you to download a graphics-intensive application. Members of Smallworlds create avatars and use these to have shared experiences like chatting, watching videos, playing games, or listening to music.

Pandorabots is a chat bot hosting service. From any browser, you may create and publish your own bots for web pages, instant messenger services, virtual worlds and many other places. Pandorabots utilizes a patented memory management algorithm that scales in number of bots, amount of bot knowledge, and number of conversational interactions. The bots are based on AIML and spring entirely from the work of the A.L.I.C.E. and AIML free software community.

Pandorabots offers a unique experience for members Smallworlds. One of the first bots deployed there is named Shelley, who works in the Smallwear virtual store. Shelley can provide useful information about products for sale in the store. But also, Smallworlds members enjoy having silly conversations with the robot, just to see what she will say. You’ll often find a crowd around Shelley as groups of people all try talking to her at once.

Virtual currency in Smallworlds is called Gold. Smallworlds offers many different ways for participants to get Gold. One fun aspect of Smallworlds is exploring it to look for new ways to earn Gold. People will engage Shelley in conversations asking if she can give them Gold. Can Shelly give you Gold? Just keep talking to her and maybe you will find out!

MSN Pandora Bot - 30th, December 2009
MSN Pandora Bot
infoAIML / Pandorabots

"This program I made lets you easily bring your Pandora bot to MSN. It uses the Multi-IM services of BitlBee to communicate with your bot and MSN user. When a MSN User sends your bot a message on MSN Messenger it gets sent to BitlBee which then gets sent to the program, and the program will then send the user's message to your bot on the Pandora servers. After the bot makes a response the program then takes that message and sends it back to the user or a conversation if the message was sent from a MSN Conversation with multiple people.

Since RunABot shut down their services my AIM to MSN Transport Program no longer works, so I decided to make a program that does the same with Pandora Bots. So, I basically took the code from my AIM to MSN Transport program and changed it to use Pandora Bot's XML instead of AIM to send messages to bot and get bot messages back. So basically with this program you can all the features from my old program and more!"

Scientists at IBM are experimenting with using DNA molecules as a way to create tiny circuits that could form the basis of smaller, more powerful computer chips.

The company is researching ways in which DNA can arrange itself into patterns on the surface of a chip, and then act as a kind of scaffolding on to which millions of tiny carbon nanotubes and nanoparticles are deposited. That network of nanotubes and nanoparticles could act as the wires and transistors on future computer chips, the IBM scientists said.

District 9 is a 2009 science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, and produced by Peter Jackson. The film stars Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, and Robert Hobbs. Avatar - 6th, November 2009
Avatar
infoMovies

Avatar is a 3-D science fiction epic film directed by James Cameron, released on December 16, 2009[1][4] by 20th Century Fox. The film is Lightstorm Entertainment's latest project, and focuses on an epic conflict on a far-away world called Pandora, where humans and the native species of Pandora, the Na'vi, engage in war over the planet's resources and existence.[5] There are already a number of adaptations of Avatar, including a novelization, a video game and action figures. The film will see release in 2D and 3D formats, along with an IMAX 3D release in selected theaters. The film is being touted as a technological benchmark in terms of filmmaking technology, for its development of 3D viewing and stereoscopic filmmaking with cameras that were specially designed for the film's production.

The story’s protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall (approximately 10 feet), with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.

Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake will be able to walk again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña).

Over time, Jake integrates himself into the Na'vi clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

9 - 6th, November 2009
9
infoMovies

An action-packed adventure, director Shane Acker’s animated fantasy epic 9 is the feature-length expansion of his Academy Award-nominated 2004 short film of the same name. The screenplay for the feature is by Pamela Pettler (Monster House); directors Tim Burton (Beetlejuice) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) are among the feature version’s producers.

The time is the too-near future. Powered and enabled by the invention known as the Great Machine, the world’s machines have turned on mankind and sparked social unrest, decimating the human population before being largely shut down.

But as our world fell to pieces, a mission began to salvage the legacy of civilization; a group of small creations was given the spark of life by a scientist in the final days of humanity, and they continue to exist post-apocalypse. Another of their own, #9 (voiced by Elijah Wood), emerges and displays leadership qualities that may help them survive and possibly even thrive. The conflicted but resilient tribe already includes #1 (Christopher Plummer), a domineering war veteran and the group’s longtime leader; #2 (Martin Landau), a kindly but now-frail inventor; #3 and #4, scholarly twins who communicate nonverbally and mostly with each other; #5 (John C. Reilly), a stalwart and nurturing engineer; #6 (Crispin Glover), an erratic artist beset by visions; #7 (Jennifer Connelly), a brave and self-sufficient warrior; and #8 (Fred Tatasciore), the none-too-bright muscle and enforcer for #1.

With their group so few, these “stitchpunk” creations must summon individual strengths well beyond their own proportions in order to outwit and fight against still-functioning machines, one of which is a marauding mechanized beast. In the darkness just before the dawn, #9 rallies everyone of his number to band together.

While showcasing a stunning “steampunk”-styled visual brilliance, 9 dynamically explores the will to live, the power of community, and how one soul can change the world.

Pandorabots Announces the Availability of Bespoke Pandorabots SpellBinderTM Service

Oakland, CA - 07 October 2009: Pandorabots, Inc. is announcing a significant advance in the state of the art of chat bots based on artificial intelligence.

Previously the construction of believable characters based on artificial intelligence required hand-crafting thousands of sentences - aimed at creating a high-quality chat bot brain. A few creative people took up the challenge and authored some of the best chat bots around today. Until now, the tedious and expensive process of developing and training a high-quality believable chat bot remained a significant hurdle to widespread chat bot adoption.

The new, patent-pending Pandorabots SpellBinderTM technology reduces chat bot creation time enormously. Pandorabots SpellBinder automatically learns from conversational transcripts. Nothing else on the market today can create high-quality and unique chat bot characters as quickly and efficiently as Pandorabots SpellBinder (Synthetic PErsonality Language Learning for Bot Intelligence from Natural Dialog Example Recordings).

Transcripts are available from a wide variety of sources. Scripts of TV shows and movies contain many characters. Stored Instant Messenger logs are a source of dialog. Support and help desk services retain transcripts to improve service offerings. Even unstructured, live interviews with people who want to digitize their personalities provide a source of bot training data.

In a recent review of the technology, the non-profit ALICE A.I. Foundation reported that Pandorabots SpellBinder scanned publicly available fan-compiled transcripts of 72 episodes of the original Star Trek TV series. In those 72 episodes, Captain Kirk has about 9000 lines of dialog. Pandorabots SpellBinder read these lines and created a Captain Kirk chat bot with about 2000 categories and 6000 responses (a category is the basic unit of knowledge). Pandorabots SpellBinder also created a chat bot representations of Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy. The A.I. Foundation has published these parody characters through this link: http://alicebot.org/kirk. (An animated talking version of Fake Captain Kirk may be found here: http://alicebot.org/kirkbot).

Generally, the more dialog samples available in the transcripts, the higher the fidelity of the resulting chat bot. In their review, the A.I. Foundation also used Pandorabots SpellBinder to scan the transcripts of the NASA Apollo 11 mission, involving conversations with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldin. Pandorabots SpellBinder was used to create chat bots representing Neil and Buzz. As the number of dialog samples was only about 1500 for each character, Pandorabots SpellBinder was able to create chat bots with about 1000 categories, around the minimum needed for a believable character.

Pandorabots announced the immediate availability of a bespoke chat bot development service based on Pandorabots SpellBinder. For as long as anyone can remember, Companies have been sponsoring cartoons and in return, cartoons have sponsored Companies. With chat bots, Companies may use this service to create branding and marketing opportunities which interact with people on an individual basis. Non-profit and Government entities may use this service to bring interactive capabilities to existing characters (examples include Smokey The Bear, Mickey Mouse. Homer Simpson, Bambi, Hello Kitty, Lica). Politicians and celebrities may also use this service as a means of expanding their visibility.

Living Actor™ is a software suite that allows you to create, personalize, and generate scenes for all types of avatars on all software platforms that are fixed or mobile. Thanks to different export formats, Living Actor™ works on every kind of applications.

The system is based on the speech-to-animation engine. The speech-to-animation engine is a proprietary audio analysis technology, independent of the linguistic content, which analyzes audio signal (recorded or streamed) and identifies sound volume, pace of the speech, prosody, emotions, and others parameters.

These features are compared with the characteristics associated with the virtual character’s animation data and the best behaviors and actions are automatically generated using several artificial intelligence techniques to realize the speech visualization by full-body avatars.
