Steve Grand, one of (if not the top) world's best cyberneticists, creator of Creatures and winner of a British OBE for that work, is working on his next offspring and trying to raise money for it via KickStart.

I know this guy and how smart he is. I've kicked in $1K.

Thanks Bruce.  I used to know one of the other Creatures creators when I was in college.  Good to see Steve Grand is working on new things.  I know Creatures still has a loyal following,  we do our bit to promote their festival each Autumn.  And to think you can get an OBE from doing this stuff  :o

I put the video and introduction to the project on the home page here and also made a pledge from Ai Dreams.

Found a new article/interview here :

Some of the questions :

Does your new project build upon any of the logistics from Creatures, or are you starting from scratch? Will the final product be a more “advanced” version of your previous games or something else entirely ?

What’s the difference between “artificial life” and “artificial intelligence?”

If a digital life form can learn, adapt, evolve, die and reproduce, at what point is it safe — scientifically speaking — to drop the term “artificial?” Can we ever?

Well he did it.

$37,222 raised with still 33 days to go.  Pretty amazing really and seems like a great way to get a project started.

Now I need to figure out something clever to do for a year and maybe the same thing will happen to me.  Lucky heather anyone ?
