I was right. I got a very quick and nice reply from the Linden family (Whitney Linden). Explanation: the region had to be immediately restarted.

I was right. Today nothing changed. Always very low (official) traffics in my places... :(

Yesterday a new email from Linden Lab. They are working hard on the issue and the problem will be resolved in a few days.

(btw today zero "official" traffic in one of my places, work in progress)

Wait and see... :)

I agree, Freddy. Of course SL is a very complicated thing but sometimes, I have some doubts about the people who try to  make it runs fine. ::)

HOT WEATHER IN RL

Yesterday night, (as always) I was in SL when suddenly, strange green things appeared all over the screen. Even impossible to normally stop the computer. After rebooting, with everything cold, black screen when trying to enter Windows. So sad, I was so proud of my GeForce 4 Ti 4600 128 MB (a bomb in ... 2002), bought on eBay, 4 years ago, to a girl from Michigan.

But at that time I could do nothing: beachvolley (Austriala-Austria) was starting on the TV. :D

This morning, my old card (similar, Ti 4200 64 Mb, same drivers) is back in my computer. All is working fine again. No great difference. In the past it was overclocked but I guess I will wait for the wintertime...

(oh, and about beachvolley, a little disappointing)

eBooks

The real title of this post is:

How my f.....g ADSL provider let me during 16 hours without internet, while the hotline was saying "this number doesn't exist"!?

But that's another (true) story...

Because of this "incident", I'm happy, I found a new use for my netbook:

1. Going in SL if my main computer is out of order. Believe it or not, it works perfectly for me. Ok.

2. Turning the netbook into a portable TV. Very good idea. Ok.

3. And now, turning it into an eBook reader. What? Read a book? What a primitive invention! The only things I read nowadays are provided by Google (and I'm sincerely ashamed of that). Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are the new Gutenbergs.

Yesterday I have read a book on my netbook (while laying on bed). That's great!!

Oh, and about beachvolley, very nice morning today. Germany vs. Germany. Sunny weather, "normal" outfits, beautiful girls.

(BTW Germany won)  :P

I think I will wait the weather goes back to "normal" temperatures and buy another Ti 4600. Great choice on the US ebay (sometimes shipping to Europe is more expensive than the card!). We can even find brand news cards inside their original box.

My GF Ti 4200 64 MB works fine in SL but my late 4600 128 MB was sooo fantastic! I need an AGP card. I guess other good cards exist, better than the 4600, but I don't want to change my power supply, too.

Of course if my old PC doesn't invent a new problem before...

(I know, you think you're reading a post from 2002, but don't worry, you are in 2012!)

MESH

Instead of buying an obsolete card for an obsolete PC, I know, better to buy a new computer (as always just a stupid question of money). But not a basic computer with the minimum requirements, a true (expensive) computer for the SL of 2012. I'd like to know, at least once, how it looks like. With a modern viewer (SL3 or Firestorm). An maybe I'd watch my own characters with a new eye.

It seems the most important word in SL viewers is "mesh" (at least for characters). I don't try to understand this magic word. A word for experts, not a word for fun. As always I'm lazy. In SL like in RL, I'm very selective, I only learn words that can bring me fun. Yes I'm very lazy.

I must admit with my old viewer v.1, I often meet (more and more) odd characters in SL. No feet, two boxes instead of hands, another box on the head, strange body, many strange things. Sorry, no reason to say hi and start a friendly relationship (a beautiful avatar is the first thing we notice in SL, like in RL). Maybe after all, people see me like that too, with their viewer. I'm afraid I'll be very disappointed by this "new" SL.

But before that, I absolutely must learn what mesh means... ;D

GT is thinking about a new computer?

Data falls of chair, picks himself up and types the following.

Make sure you get a 256bit graphics card, the cheapest you can find will be good enough for SL, could be ATI (AMD) or Nvidia.

And really you want a quad core CPU with a minimum of 4 GIG RAM in the box.

Sorry Data, and many thanks for your advice. I think I got a short brain issue. I guess I was under the influence of Lotto. 200 millions euros to win yesterday night. I was planning to buy Linden Lab, they have good computers for SL there.

I saw the results this morning: nobody won. Fortunately. I love my Pentium 4 and my netbook sooo much. :)

(and about the Ferrari, no hurry)

MESH, again...

Hi, you know what? Yesterday night, I met a girl in SL (I know, nothing new). In her profile, on the 1st tab, she wrote:

"IF YOU WEAR MESH PLEASE KEEP IN MIND I CAN'T SEE IT ON VIEWER".

It seems we both have the same problem: an old viewer. The fact is she looked good and "normal" to me (the rest is private).

(then I watched beachvolley on my TV, USA vs. USA, perfect show, no mesh in London)

2008 METAVERSE TOUR

And now my touch of nostalgia (I really need it, I discovered SL lately, in 2008):

2008 METAVERSE TOUR - THE SOCIAL VIRTUAL WORLD'S A STAGE Small | Large

Many virtual worlds are gone, some others appeared (a film from 2008, maybe the golden age of metaverse) :)
