A few new TV shows
« on: October 26, 2008, 01:32:21 pm »
Anyone catch a few of the following TV shows?

Sanctuary - SCI-FI channel here in USA - staring Amanda Tapping from Stargate
A refuge for human-like beings who posess various / enhanced abilities from ordinary humans.

Fringe - FOX - A nice looking female FBI agent, an older genius scientist who was recently released
from a mental hospital and his son, work to solve various anomolies of science in an effort to thwart
the bad guys. It's kind of out there like X-Files but entertaining!

The Sarah Connor Chronicles - FOX - In a time before the robots along with SkyNet took over the world,
a humanoid robot was sent back in order to protect John Connor from being killed. Summer Glau plays
the sexy but rather emotionless protector bot as John and his mother remain on constant watch for
the assassins while trying to convince John what role he must assume when the future arrives.

Good Stuff! ;)

There wasn't enough going on in SCC for my liking, but maybe it will improve.

I have seen Sanctuary too and it did seem quite good although I only caught it half way through.  Nice to see Amanda Tapping in there, did she have an english accent or was I imagining that ?

Amanda Tapping -

Date of birth:    August 28 (year never officially provided)
Place of birth:    Rochford, Essex, United Kingdom
Citizenships:    Canadian and English
City of residence:    Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Height:    5'9'' / 175cm
Natural hair colour:    Blonde
Spouse:    Alan
Children:    Olivia B (born on March 22, 2005, Tuesday at 6:29pm)
Siblings:    Richard and Christopher
Profession:    Actress and producer
Supported charities:    Waterkeeper Alliance, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Pollution Probe, Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Hobbies:    Camping, skiing, hiking, reading, riding horses
Pets:    George (dog)

Amanda has British roots - she was born in Rochford, Essex, and then lived in South Benfleet, Essex, but very shortly afterwards, when she was just one year old, her family relocated to Ontario in Canada. While obviously holding a Canadian citizenship, she still retains her British one.

Just watched the first episode of Sanctuary. It is good.... like the old x-files. But honestly now... can someone explain to me me what is going on? It seems like TV and cinema are running out of ideas...Sanctuary is OK but nothing like the excitement and catch-breathing episodes of X-files. It seems that we are recycling the same old ideas and even those that appeared new and fresh, like Smallville are starting to get boring and old. Even the sci-fi appears dead. No start-trek, no star-gate, star-gate atlantis has become so boringggggggg!!!!! no farscape, nothing... Even Heroes that everyone seems to like so much is so so boring........ it is like blending police TV series with fantastic four.    Is there a really-good show out there that is new and fresh (fantasy or Sci-fi)? I mean is there a good show that offers some drama, a lot lot lot lot of exploration and unknown and is not only about killing, shooting people and silly plots to kill other people? Everything now days seems so full of violence, so full of gun-fighting and less about inspiring people to look beyond the horizon.... and they wonder why young people are so violent. I really miss the good old days of Star trek.

Hmmm, there does seem to be a lack of new decent Sci-Fi films too.  I am cheered by the thought of seeing the new(ish) X-Files film though, still haven't seen it yet and I am hoping it will be out on DVD for Christmas.

I think I will give Sanctuary a good chance though.  I started to watch SCC last night (it's the new series here) and I have to admit I tired of it and gave up and went to bed, probably more to do with tiredness, though not sure...one more go...

Still have to watch Fringe, but if it's anything like the X-Files I will be sure to like it.

Oh...and The Truth IS out there somewhere, they just misplaced it for a while 'till things blew over ;)

I certainly agree with Farscape!

Been watching Fringe as it all unfolds and it seems to be crafted around the fringe science that is highly probable but
not quite possible with current technology (as we know it).

It's sort of a cross between X-Files and a scientific McGuyver (SP?). The plot is twisted with shadowed players in the
background for now similar to those characters in SCC. Time will tell.

Yes, there is a lacking but sometimes one can get much enjoyment from the road less traveled.

Looking forward to the return of eureka soon. Over the edge but entertaining!

Be well ya'll!

It was weird how the lead actors from Farscape ended up in Star Gate.  I've only seen those two in it a couple of times as I don't have Satellite myself.  I think Star Gate went downhill a bit, it was better with Jack in it... Also I agree that Star Gate Atlantis is not as good as the original series.
