AI GRAPHIC NOVEL
« on: February 21, 2014, 02:14:09 am »
Anyone else read the sci-fi graphic novel MONKEY ROOM?

I'm curious to know how other readers view their depiction of a technologically-based GLOBAL CONSCIOUSNESS. Plus, it's just a super-nutty story. Especially the pigeons. And the dominatrix.  And those crazy focus groups. Bonkers.

I dig it.  Check out the picture I put on my office door (from Amazon link for the book):

Oh, I like this panel too.    It's also from the public Amazon link for the MONKEY RM book:

That looks pretty good, not read a graphic novel for a while. I could only find Kindle versions - do you know if there is a print version ?

And welcome to the site both of you :)

Not yet Freddy. Though I've gone through a few sites, and most people found the novel very enjoyable and gripping, it seems only available on any Kindle-able device, phone, tablet, computer, ereader that will handle Kindle's format.
For less than $3.00 USD, it's still a pretty nice value.

I know...one day it's all going to be only digital!! No more "wasted" trees right!!  :-\

Anyone else following that TWITCH game, where thousands of users control a Pokémon game?

From an AI perspective, the game seems like a primitive example of a “MONKEY ROOM” collaborative consciousness.

This is how it’s defined in the MR book:

Seems like life imitating art, or art imitating life, or something like that.   :)

I imitate Art every day!  No...wait...I AM Art every day and have been for a long time!! :2funny:

Umm...No, sorry, I'm wayyyy too old for pokemon nor do I even know what it is aside from those little funny character things that I see kids playing with.

Perhaps there is some useful reasoning that some other members here will care to share if they are so indulged.

Hi Art - on the Pokémon issue, here is an article that describes what I was talking about.

It's a website where they allow thousands of people to play at once, not against each other, but together, all controlling the same character, with a combined will (sorta).

They see it as just a game, but it's actually a primitive "Monkey Room Consciousness" form of Artificial Intelligence, as explained above.  Here is the link to the "twitch" game article:

Very interesting how that all works. Thanks for sharing :)

This reminds me of something called The Wisdom of Crowds.

If you know of Derren Brown, then he did a trick once that he claimed was due to this idea/phenomenon - in that they were able to predict the lottery results. Of course Brown is a magician, so I only saw it as a trick but have no idea how he did it, but the idea was still interesting.
