AI & iRobot

Hollywood being the entity that it is produced some interesting films:

AI - at what point does a robot's intelligence qualify it as a being and
as a being is there a moral obligation to its survival or destruction?
Is it murder if such an entity is killed?
I did like the classroom discussion or where to take AI in the future.

iRobot - thought provoking concept : helper / assistant robots as
common place as the family car. Lets just make sure they know their
limitations lest things get out of hand.

See ya in the movies....
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

I thought AI was a good film despite what some critics said about it.? It's like a Sci-Fi Pinnochio and I think
it approached the subject of an AI's self awareness as well as any other film on the subject.? I wish this area was explored more in films.

I think the best film to have delved into an AI's quest for self discovery is still Bladerunner.? The replicant android Roy Batty played by Rugar Hauer is a formidable character, with in the end it seems, more humanity and understanding than his pursuer Rick Deckard.? If that recent story about the lifelike robot at the Japanese Expo is anything to go by, then the road is already being paved to the future imagined in Bladerunner.

Adding to what you say Art, about the question hanging over the value of an AI's life; in all three of these films it is humanity that is cast in a bad light.

I read that Dustin Hoffman was the original choice in Harrison Fords role, somehow I don't think that would have worked.
