WOW!

Caught this tonight and all I can say is go and see it as soon as possible.

IMO possibly one of the best 'alien' films in many a year.

Brillianhtly executed, acted, scored, camera work and amazing blow you off your seat CGI sequences.

Also, very gory in parts, not for the kids heheh :)

Will not do a full review as may spoil for those not seen this film yet, but once the cinema run is nearing a close will do a full write up for you good folks.

AIDreams verdict: Go Watch now, 9/10  ;)

I'd like to, but I don't have any money. From what I saw of the previews it looked good. However, I also mean that it looked like a little more than standard sci-fi entertainment. It looked like it might have some deep, significant themes to it. If you can do it without going into the details, could you maybe share some of the ideas you personally observed while watching the movie?

I would say its hard to put a theme on it really.

Yes its Sci-Fi but only in the sense that there is an alien species etc etc. Its also a gritty urban drama, a film about racism and apartheid and the dangers of such, its also a feel good movie at times, a laugh out load movie (at moments).

The director (his first big film) tries to combine two directorial styles (at some points think Cloverfield) and by the large I would say he succeeded in blending the styles together. The acting is top notch, considering for many this is their first film. Add all this to a $30m budget and Hollywood should hang its head in shame.

The CGI and lighting is amazing, forget Transformers sleek and shiny surfaces, here with have real gritty, suburban colours and faded metals. It all together makes for a very entertaining film, and one in my opinion, that surpases the boundaries of its genre and gives you a film that leaves you wanting more.

I can't stress enough that this film is very 'different', I saw it knowing only that it was supposed to be a good film, I knew nothing else. maybe thats why I enjoyed it so much, I had not got into the hype, did not know the storyline etc, and I was very pleasently suprised at the events that took place.

Yes there are minor plot holes and goofs, but damn, some of the biggest films in history have had these, and yes there are many unanswered questions, but again to the doubters (of which I am sure there are many) this is Sci-Fi, so let go of your imagination and just allow yourself to be taken on a ride.

Do you believe there will be a sequel? The film is good, but I didn't really understand what happened at the end...

Well...

In my opinion on this film...unfortunatly I think there will be a sequal yes. Not that its been left open ended (well not as much as other films) but there seemed to be too many hints suggesting at it (refer to Christophers comments right near the end).

I actually thought the ending was very powerful and moving, and with any luck they will leave as a stand alone film. All I can say is that if they do make a sequal, lets hope the same team is in charge. At least then it has a chance of having some quality.

MAJOR SPOILERS!

wgb:

Wikus finally realises after his treatment what the human race (or MNU) is doing to these creatures...after stressing that it will take so long to 'fix him' and then realsing that MNU are going to kill Christopher, he has a change of heart and sacrafices himself so that Christopher and his son can escape. They eventually became friends and gained a trust with each other, hence Christopher saying he will come back for him.

The final scene of the pictures and Wikus making the metal rose really moved me.
