District 9 is one of my favourite films too - I think it's one of the best modern films of this genre. I also like a lot of the others, Blade Runner in particular and a few there I have yet to see. Great list

Yeah you should check them out, and I have seen Space Odyssey, and appreciate it, it's a little too slow paste for my liking (for that type of film) though, something more recent that I feel has similarities and just added to the list is Moon (2009) amazing film.

Ah yeah, Moon is a great film - wasn't sure if I would like it at first but it turned out to be an attention grabber.
