Better Than Us

This film is a Russian Sci-Fi series (2 seasons, 16 episodes) that is nicely based in the future yet grounded enough to make it very realistic with regard to how people live.
I've just started watching it and from seeing a few episodes, it is holding my interest and makes me want to watch more. Like a page-turner of a book.

While it is a Russian series/movie, the language is in English (lip-synced/dubbed), not captioned. One can easily watch it without missing a beat.
-------
Premise -
A Rich guy purchases an intelligent prototype android after its creator dies (ergo, one of a kind - no more like it). While charging and in its self-defense, a human dies. Android leaves during a power failure finds little girl, bonds with her, ends up living in the girl's room, unknown to the father. The rich guy is desperate to locate his robot. The stage is set.

A beautiful, one of a kind advanced female humanoid. Could she have actually committed murder and gone against the Three Laws of Robotics?

Having just watched the last episode (16). we were really impressed with the scenes, sets, actors, and dialog. The production included humor, drama, intrigue/mystery, spying, traitors, informants, robots and humanoids of all kinds as well as references to advanced AI programming. Morality, ethics and many social concerns we are questioning today were portrayed in this series.

While the men were somewhat rugged, the women were strong and beautiful in appearance. The overall plot might have been made up of some segments often found in other sci-fi shows but newly presented in this film.

One found the characters easily identifiable and at times even rooting for them to succeed. Yes, the bad guys are quite bad but well...you'll just have to watch it for yourselves. We sort of binge-watched it at 2 - 3 episodes / day and enjoyed every minute of it.

The only nit-pick, of course, might be the language and lipsync between Russian and English but that is easily overlooked as a large amount of the mouth movements do sync pretty nicely for most parts. That's just a minor annoyance but don't let that dissuade you from enjoying it.

See link above.

Thanks, sounds promising, especially since you say they added a bit of humor.

Watched it, was glued to the screen late into the night. It reminded me of Orphan Black, and Person of Interest, which is a great TV show by the way, especially if you’re interested in AI. I couldn’t always keep the different groups and Russian names straight, (maybe I should have watched it slower), but the central story-line was great. The acting was really good, the divorce was painfully realistic, there were some golden, lighthearted moments as well. For the future I hope there are fewer plot threads and intrigue, and more time spent with the core cast. I hope they risk going against convention and confuse the heck of out Hollywood by making season two smaller and better.
