Blade Runner 2049
« on: April 08, 2017, 01:28:50 am »
Just added this to the Chatterbot Collection movies section.

I really hope it's a good film as I loved Bladerunner and it's still among my favourite films years later.

Quote
Blade Runner 2049 is an upcoming American neo-noir science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. It is the sequel to Blade Runner, starring Ryan Gosling, and Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard, with Ana de Armas, Jared Leto, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James and Dave Bautista in supporting roles. The film is set for release in the United States on October 6, 2017, in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

If that trailer was any evidence of the upcoming movie, I honestly think it will pale in comparison to the original Blade Runner. Just my personal take based on the powerful plot of the original without much of the CGI and post editing as they would have today. For me as well, the original Blade Runner is at the top of my list for Sci-Fi films. Great content, story line, actors, etc.

This remake however, like so many others, is probably not needed nor necessary. :-\

I agree… certain films should not be messed with/ re-booted/ enhanced or indeed sequelled.

I personally as I’m sure you do too; get a certain vibe or feeling from watching a classic film, they have nostalgic conations… they ground me and help me be who I am through allowing me to relive and experience the original genre as it was first encountered in my youth.

Watching a poor re-boot or sequel is like meeting a childhood crush of whom you have very fond memories… only to learn she is now fat and ugly... kinda ruins the memories... well you get my drift.

Harrison Ford showed he still has it, in the recent Star Wars reboot.
I predict the same for this veteran actor in the Blade Runner reboot.
If not for Harrison Ford, these movies wouldn't be what they are.

While part of what you said might be true, the old saying of, "One monkey doesn't stop the show", certainly might hold true here. (certainly not meant as a slam against a great actor like Harrison Ford, just a figure of speech).

There have been numerous remakes and originals that totally flopped, even with using well-known actors.

A poor plot can't be resurrected by a good actor.

Of course, I would love for it to be a very nicely done remake, but as mentioned, based on the trailer, I kind of doubt it.

Just wanted to point out that it is a sequel not a remake Art. It would be foolish to remake the original.

Mackenzie Davis alone is worth the price of admission to Blade Runner 2049!   There are just too many fantastic celebrities in the cast of this movie to get to in this short post.  So, I will discuss some of those who have a connection to A.I. in their work.  Obviously, Harrison Ford in Star Wars, but there are others.

As a big fan, I'm just so excited Mackenzie Davis is starring in Blade Runner 2049.  In her TV series Halt and Catch Fire, (spoiler alert) Mackenzie plays a programmer who codes a prototypical artificially intelligent operating system in the dawn of the PC era.  Now, I didn't watch the coming attractions, but I do hope David Dastmalchian is the villain in Blade Runner 2049.

David plays the villain Murdoc in the new TV series MacGyver a successful reboot in my opinion.  This reboot includes an amazing upgrade,  (spoiler alert) an actual robot character.  With the voice of actor Nicholas Guest,  the robot  is fascinating to watch.

The other day watching a rerun of the original MacGyver, left me wondering, did the reboot improve on the original?  Not so fast, as a loyal fan of veteran actor Richard Dean Anderson, and his long Sci-Fi  track record.  In the field of robotics, the original MacGyver TV show inspired a real military robot called the MacGyver robot, which made the news.  But, in terms of reboots, I do feel the MacGyver reboot demonstrates just what a reboot should be.

Aye this is indeed a straight sequel with Ridley acting as Executive Producer.

Actually looking forward to this one quite a lot, but it had better be good as the original is only in a handful of films I rate as perfection or near to it.

Edward James Olmos starred as Adama in Battlestar Galactica.

Anyone see any other A.I. connections in the Blade Runner 2049 cast ?

@ Freddy - Yes apologies as I mis-spoke, meaning the sequel as opposed to a reboot / remake.
Thanks for catching that.

I do want to watch the movie, none-the-less hoping for the best. O0
