Without a doubt this film was one of few I have seen depicting a positive relationship between man and robot, I wonder if this is meant to reflect positive public opinion? I am not one to say being so young, yet from what I have heard, most films featuring robots to a large extent have great underlying meaning (such as I-robot). Although not always related to how the public are receiving machines growing in intelligence, I wouldn't be surprised if someone undertaking a media research project found a connection between the representation of robots and public concern towards a robotic revolution.

Interesting. Well I think this particular film goes for the cute factor a lot more than most. The robots in the film are humanised a lot as well, with emotions and feelings. The robots in I - Robot were not getting along with their tasks in a suitable way and so there was a bigger conflict of interest.  Interestingly once that had been uncovered their human qualities counted against them I think.

I can't say that I've seen an upswing in positive outlook on robots thanks to this movie.

There have been a few television commercials that have been what I deem to be "anti-robot".

I don't think they'd use that theme if they didn't anticipate a positive consumer reaction.

I can't help but imagining we'll end up with a situation similar to the one in the Surrogates movie, where the people who want to outlaw robots are militantly opposed to those who use them.

It'll be the same as it was with the automobile. Laws will be passed requiring someone to walk fifteen paces in front of the robot waving a red flag or a red lantern, depending on the time of day, to warn people that a robot is coming and that they should beware.
