No one ever added any reviews to my original posting last year (2014) so here's my take....

OK, I finally got around to watching the movie. It was pretty nicely done although some might compare it as a redone Short Circuit scenario where a baseline robot unit becomes "endowed" with an enhanced A.I. chip giving it emotions.
All's fine and good except the scientist is working for the typical Government "overlord" boss who needs these government contracts so no tinkering with the bots allowed. I'm sorry boss, did you say something? Hmm. You can see where this is going.

Enter the bad guys...OK...2 guys and a cute, although somewhat weird girl. Her boyfriend is so over the top and he is said to be pretty much the same way in real life! In my opinion, he should have been kept on a leash!

They did much like the gang boys did to Johnny 5 (in Short Circuit), spray painting him and adding decorations, etc. in an attempt to make him more like one of them.

From there, the story unfolds as Chappie learns a great many things at a somewhat rapid rate.

Unlike Short Circuit, this story doesn't have such a happy ending but does have one with a possible future.

Overall, the story is entertaining and the ending might leave you pondering a bit and scratching your head.

I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars (more for entertainment, special effects and development).
