Forget Siri: This Radical New AI Teaches Itself and Reads Your Mind
12 August 2014, 12:00 am

When Apple announced the iPhone 4S on October 4, 2011, the headlines were not about its speedy A5 chip or improved camera. Instead they focused on an unusual new feature: an intelligent assistant, dubbed Siri. WIREDLink.

Amazing! Especially if you scroll to near the bottom of the article to the Flowchart of inquiring for a bottle of cheap wine that goes good with lasagna while on the way to your brother's house! All calculated and displayed in 1/20th of a second!! - Good stuff is in store for us!
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Viv is what Siri was originally supposed to be when it was still in military development. On one hand its workings are very interesting and could be just what we want from our robot slaves, on the other hand it comes close to the stuff sci-fi scenarios are made of.

Or: "Generate a holographic opponent in the style of Sherlock Holmes that could defeat Data."  ;)

I'm curious to see how they will keep its interaction with misinterpretable human language under control. Would it be booking flights if you ask it for background information for a holiday you've yet to consider, or might it decide to call the police or your wife if you told it "I'm drunk." rather than call a cab? While AI are still prone to misunderstand, is it wise to give them greater power? Especially if we're going to use them while we're drunk.
I suspect we'll see a return of the "Are you sure you want to do this?" button.

i think there is always some solution like:
Human: i'm drunk
AI: here, take this to get silver in 5 secs

this one is my favorite:
Human: i just killed my wife
AI: just a sec, i'm searching through death... 25%...50%...75%...100%. yeah, i've found your wife, i'll bring her back alive now.
