AI 'frees us up to be humans again,' H2O.ai chief says
23 February 2016, 12:00 am

Data will be a key factor that sets businesses apart competitively in the coming years, and success will depend increasingly on artificial intelligence and machine learning. So believes SriSatish Ambati, cofounder and CEO of machine-learning startup H2O.ai.

Sorry but I tend to not pay a whole lot of attention to those who stand to profit from what they do. I value neutral parties opinions more. So of course he is going to say that. I am sure that right now no we do not have to worry about AI and robots but they are advancing pretty fast and it won't be too long before we have to make hard choices. Better to make those choices now while we can.

Yes technology can create new jobs  but they also remove jobs. Not everyone is smart enough to be retrained. Some are just not able to adapt. Eventually your going to reach a point where there are not a whole lot of jobs left. Just like with gas and oil there is not a everlasting unlimited supply of them.  Everything has it's limits except maybe the universe.

The biggest problem is people tend to react with a knee jerk reaction to things (myself included) instead of carefully thinking through all the variables. So yes there are going to be people that rush to both sides of the debate. But have both sides really listened to each other?
So sue me

I don't listen to anyone, I try only to listen to facts. Robot proponents tell us dreams and ideals instead. Ideally robots would "take care of the elderly". Realistically, no elderly can afford physical robots of any helpful size for the foreseeable future. Paro costs $8000, and that's just a robot pet who can wiggle. Care centers typically rent one and time-share them between patients.
Ideally, robots would do the dirty jobs so we can do the fun jobs, just like the industrial revolution lightened our physical load and made people mechanics and factory workers. Realistically, it makes no business sense for a company to buy a robot that does the job of 10 people, but then still keep those 10 people on as well. And while in the industrial revolution we exchanged physical tasks for brain tasks, we are now exchanging brain tasks in exchange for... "emotion"? Sure. We're all going to work in psychology and the entertainment industry. My many acquaintances in the entertainment industry will tell you exactly how empty their fridges are, doing that line of work.

I don't mind robots taking my job, they can have it. But only if I get to reap the rewards.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.
