Aigo personal assistant
« on: May 15, 2018, 11:13:11 pm »
Has Aigo made the rounds on this forum yet?  I just learned about it today, and I'm curious what you all think.

There's more about it on the website here.  https://aigo.ai/technology/  The approach they describe is conceptually attractive to me.

You are the first to mention it here. I daresay you saw the notice about the upcoming ask-me-anything with the CEO of Aigo on Reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/artificial/comments/8jloy0/ama_im_peter_voss_ceo_and_chief_scientist_at/

Still time to get your questions in folks.

There is a lot of good information on the website and the design looks sound, they're clearly aware of the issues, but sadly it's still vapourware until we can get our hands on it. It's still just in prototype stage, there might be a closed beta later in the year, and there is no hint of a release date.

Great find WOM and yes, while true infurl, to a large extent, the developers do seem to have a good game plan in front of them.

I did locate a very appropriate Demo of a little greater length but very detailed, especially if it lives up to this hype. Let's hope!

Googling around it seems Peter Voss has a very long and credible track record for founding and building companies with an artificial intelligence bent. He even claims to have invented the term AGI. There could well be something to this... eventually.

There is now a link that you can use to sign up for advance notice of announcements and promotions for Aigo's Personal Personal Assistant.

You can use this link https://my.aigo.ai/#bf38d936d72ee940h32eebaadf2288 which was forwarded to me after I signed up so they will know that I referred you, or you can go the original article and find the original link for signing yourself up.

Still digging. It seems they want our money in exchange for magic beans, er tokens.

https://aigotoken.ai/#about-token

It kind of says that each magic bean will secure you an Aigo companion one day, but that still seems to be years away. I suppose this would have been on Kickstarter if they could have met the requirements, but they didn't.

I don't know what you were reading but they had a rather nice Timeline posted on their main site, detailing the projected release of various versions or as events are to unfold.

Apparently, these "Tokens" can be used something akin to bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to purchase additional "features" like different "memories", "brains", "Skills or abilities", etc., etc.

Knowing how most salesmen sell the sizzle and not the steak, I do hope this turns out to be the real deal instead of yet another "Crowd Funded" empty-your-pockets-into-ours schemes.

Best of luck to them.
I'll be watching from here. Safely ensconced in an "unknown location".   ;)

I'm confident that they have some very advanced technology. It's comparable in capability to the personal assistant software that I've read about and seen demonstrated by the University of Rochester over the past ten years, and I believe it really exists. Note that while the demonstrations might not be "mock-ups" they're not entirely genuine either. The "elder companion" that you posted earlier features a rather poor imitation of a child's voice by a mature actor, but for what it's worth, I don't believe Google's demo of Duplex was completely authentic either.

Here's another presentation by their "lead cognitive psychologist" which is technically sound and very convincing.

The problem is that there is a huge gap between having a working technology prototype and being able to commercialise it, never mind at scale. They are trying to raise money by something that is not far removed from Kickstarter or an initial coin offering. This makes me wonder why they can't get backing from venture capital, or even fund it organically from their previous business ventures. Those were successful weren't they?

If you have something solid to offer, venture capital is very easy to find. I am speaking from experience. There aren't enough good projects for the amount of venture capital that's going the rounds, so I have to ask myself what is wrong with their project?

The semantic parser is a solid component, the knowledge representation seems adequate, and the learn-by-explanation or learning word substitutions is super handy (some AIML bots have this too). But... as the demonstrations are controlled examples at least, I'll wait to see how well this turns out. The demos seem extremely contextual, and because I have a project with similar contextual abilities I am well aware of how many difficulties remain in that area even with semantic parsing. It seems to me there's still a good deal of specialised procedures to insert the context (shorthand and corrections) into specific tasks, and that is the thing that limits Alexa et al.
So, while the technology is better, I'm not sure the total results will be, due to the potentially remaining bottleneck.

I'm also generally not fond of American style marketing, where one disses one's competitor by name. If you have to make others look bad in order to make yourself look good, it suggests that you're not good enough to stand out otherwise. It looks promising, but I expect this kind of large commercial venture to achieve their own funding and I will wait until a product rolls out.

American elections are in my country commonly described as "He who has the most money and shouts the loudest, wins". And yes, I thoroughly hate how slander campaigns, instead of agenda, are the deciding factor for American voters every time. Marketing practices in my country are quite the opposite, so this product's "light-years ahead of the competition" slogan also has the opposite effect on me. But I take it this is aimed at an American audience either way.

I respectfully take issue with that last statement.
It is "aimed" at whoever will listen and take note of the drivel being spewed.

It is likewise decided by those weak souls who have neither the intestinal fortitude, compassion or desire to do the right thing and think for themselves if such a thing is even possible.
