Big data offers tailor-made shopping
21 March 2014, 12:00 am

Imagine everything being known about you the minute you walk in to a department store - your name, measurements, purchase history in-store and online, even your views on life, the universe and everything. Would that make you feel like a celebrity or a victim of intrusive surveillance? BBC TechnologyLink.

Well surprise, surprise! Has no one ever seen the film, Minority Report?
That's exactly what happened when you walked into a store. Your eyes were scanned and facial
recognition determined your identity then the "store" knew your likes and dislikes, previous
purchases and buying habits, etc. Yep, your experience was "tailored" to you and for you!

Scary, but it's here and getting to know you even better!
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Yes indeed. It's already happened on the web - Google serves adverts based on past browsing habits. Actually I prefer that to random adverts. And we know Amazon does this kind of thing on their homepage - delivering content that you might be interested in, based on the things you have bought or looked at in the past.
