Blue Brain
« on: July 17, 2005, 03:22:23 am »
This is the IBM project that is attempting to model the human brain.? The project has been nicknamed 'BlueBrain' and involves the use of no less than four of IBM's Blue Gene systems, these currently being the fastest super computers in the world.

Along with scientists from Switzerland they will be attempting to simulate the brain's biological systems.? Cognitive functions such as learning, language and perception are part of the project, but also brain malfunctions (as if it wasn't hard enough to get a working brain!).

Quote:

"Modeling the brain at the cellular level is a massive undertaking because of the hundreds of thousands of parameters that need to be taken into account," said Professor Henry Markram, the EPFL project leader.
