Computers playing Pacman
« on: July 14, 2011, 01:11:13 pm »
I couldn't help notice the article on the front page about artificial intelligence being used to play Pacman (the link doesn't work by the way). I wouldn't be too impressed by this story as you can follow simple patterns to complete each maze in Pacman:

http://www.math.montana.edu/~hyde/pacman/

I used to do the same in my wasted youth and could practically play the game with my eyes closed, just listening to the sounds.

Pac Man was always difficult for me lol, but fun. And no I never solved the Rubic's cube either unless taking it apart with a screw driver counts ;)

Being the type of geek I was while in school, I shouldn't have been surprised to have received six Rubik's Cubes for my birthday when they first came out. Oddly, all but one had been removed from their packaging, and completely jumbled when I got them. My brother decided to "help" one day, and swapped all the stickers to solve one, and Dad "took a screwdriver" to another to "help solve it". The rest stayed as they were for the better part of four years before I finally learned the "right way" to solve them, and from then on, no Rubik's Cube can remain in my sight for more than a few seconds before I'm involuntarily reaching for it, to put it to rights. :) We used to have contests, my senior year in high school, to see who could solve a cube in the shortest time. I never won, but my times hovered near the 45 second mark (the fastest I ever saw was 38 seconds). Now, I'm lucky to solve one in less than two minutes, but I still try to practice from time to time. :)

I had to buy a book to solve mine lol.  I could get one side and two blocks down if you get me, but I could never get the bottom cubes right, I've come close, but still never solved it on my own.  I still have a couple as well, but they haven't seen the light of day for years.

Btw that broken link should point here :

Seems that whoever made the original link screwed up.
