A new low-power, "brain-inspired" supercomputing platform based on IBM chip technology will soon start exploring deep learning for the U.S. nuclear program. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory announced on Tuesday that it has purchased the platform, based on the TrueNorth neurosynaptic chip IBM introduced in 2014.

Sorry but AI and nuclear programs sounds like a scifi horror flick in the making.

I agree. Neural nets aren't exactly reliable. While they do well on average, they've also shown to go entirely out-of-the-park on occasion. And with nuclear power, one occasion is all you need.
There's a lot of text in the article without saying nothing about what it'll be applied to though. It would be fine if it's just gathering research data for review.

Yeah...good points. As soon as I came across the article and the mention of these, "neurosynaptic chips", I thought, OK then...I guess I should rethink my "long-term" retirement options.
