How to make chatbots seem more human
21 September 2015, 12:00 am

One of the ultimate aims of artificial intelligence is to create machines we can chat to. A computer program that can be trusted with mundane tasks - booking our holiday, reminding us of dentist appointments and offering useful advice about where to eat - but also one that can discuss the weather and answer offbeat questions.

This was created by the BBC's tech reporter at the Loebner Prize on Saturday. Me and Mitsuku feature quite heavily in it.

Yes i read that yesterday before tyler posted it and saw you in it. I posted in on my own forum at my website. It was kinda nice to put a face with the name finally. You have done a good job with your chatbot.
So sue me

Thanks for the kind words. I was also broadcast live on the BBC news which was quite scary. There's a clip of it here:

I love your accent. Is it  Irish or Scottish? I can imagine that being interviewed was a bit nerve racking. I would not be able to do it with out tripping over my words.
So sue me

Steve,

You really don't think it will be in our lifetime? Tsk...ye of little faith! Come on man...where's yer daring spirit of adventure and exploration? Oh...down here with the rest of us... ;)

Actually, for someone say 50 - 60 years old it could still happen during that projected lifespan of 76 - 82 years of age.

I think of Moore's law every time someone puts a limitation on things. The robots and AI are getting smarter every day. Just a few years we had no Siri or Google Now or Cortana. A few years prior to that we had no Watson from IBM playing a winning at Jeopardy. Before that we had no computer chess champion (again IBM's Deep Blue).

Now with Darpa and Google and so many other players in the field, we are going to see some very amazing things in a very short time. Stay tuned!

Enjoyed your video interview!
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

It's from Yorkshire which is a large area in the north of England.

Ah the state of the art rescue robots that struggle to open a door handle before falling over? I think we are safe from the Terminators for a long time to come :)
