Seems to me like the media is stirring it all up to get a story as usual.

All it takes is a nod and suddenly the media becomes sole authority on anything and everything that they deem newsworthy! How very convenient!

Basically what my father has been always telling me about politics! I guess it may indeed be one of the most worthy quotes.

Okay, the critics to this media non-sense have been awaken!

I would like to add that business insider's article is more like a tease to the fearful ones, since it claims artificial intelligence is incapable of doing a lot of things (most of which actually make it 'intelligent' lol), so if that part annoys you, just say 'YET', accompanied by an evil laugh after each bolded sub-title you read :)

How does making jokes fit into being lethal to humans? It undermines what valid points they did have.

I'm saving the first link to file because it is so well structured that it's perfect material for text summarisation AI. - that is going to take your job.

Machines cannot make jokes. Computers are bad at certain types of non-logical thinking that most define humans, Goldberg says. "I don't think we'll ever hear a robot telling a great joke in my lifetime."

They obviously haven't heard of The Funniest Computer Ever contest (http://funniestcomputer.neurogrid.com/) in which computers make original jokes and poetry on any subject of the judges' choosing.

I just want to bring up this point about AI and robots. They do have some valid points. Robots can learn to lie to each other. There is a case of robots learning to horde their food. In fact there was a article in 2009 about a bunch of robots learning to lie to each other to compete for rewards. So if they can learn to do that what is stopping them from learning other stuff as well?
So sue me

My point is that the second you program something to have free will of some sort it is not always going to do what you want it to do.  The ability of it to act on its own without human help is a form of free will. So if they can learn to lie they can learn to do other things on their own as well.  The more optimistic of AI researchers are hoping for cooperation and for them to love us. But the downside is that it may not go that way. I own and collect robots and some of them that can do things on their own can creep a person out because of the choice it makes. I build hobby robots so i have a fair idea of what goes into them. But the AI part adds a element of intelligence it maybe very rudimentary but it is there nerveless. Things are just now finally taking off in the robot world and in AI in general. As one person put it on a short video I saw we are entering into a new machine age. Are we really ready for it? I am not saying we should not do it or back track. I am just saying proceed with caution and make sure you add off buttons of some sort.
So sue me

If they learn to lie to each other then it's only a matter of time before the learn to lie to humans in order to get what they want or need!
Then comes the regrets....

Of course they could do whatever pleases them. But for one, you will limit his access to the WWW, and you won't give it pneumatic muscles capable of braking your head. By the time we learn enough about this futuristic AI, it still won't be capable of evil deeds such as myself (the avatar), instead it will probably be hooked up to some wheels but a generous amount of sensors.

Also, an easy counter-measure is implanting a secondary, stand-alone processor which will monitor activity and if it chooses to attack someone it will simply shutdown as a failsafe.

And one more note. Who prevents humans from doing the most idiotic of things (specially in the name of religion, such as terrorists)? If we make robots a full civilization, we can't control them. They will become evil if their environment causes them to be. But I guess we need to decide whether we are going for that, or some simple lab-rat robots just for the cause of science and proof-of-concepts.
