Google: How do we build a cleaning robot that doesn't cheat or destroy things in its path?

Google says it wants to bring "precision" to the debate about safety and artificial intelligence (AI), which has often veered into discussions about smarter machines stealing jobs or even rising up and destroying humanity. Scientists from Google's deep-learning research unit, Google Brain, the Elon Musk-backed OpenAI, and Stanford and Berkeley universities, have teamed up to explore five safety problems that could arise as AI is applied to general systems for the home, office, and industry.

Like with pretty much all robotics, it comes down to programming.

Our Neat-O floor cleaning robot has served us extremely well for the past 6 years. Other than routine maintenance, emptying it's debris bin and such, it has dutifully carried out it's task, including scheduled, autonomous cleaning or our carpet and hardwood floors. It has never knocked over anything nor brought harm to any living thing. In fact, since it uses laser to map its room and location within the room, it rarely nudges anything.

Clumsy robots that have to navigate like a child's toy by bumping into things then changing directions are not worth having, IMHO.
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!
