For those who claim their products are “A.I.-powered,” ... I must ask: Are they actually using A.I.? What are A.I. chatbots? Is Siri a chatbot? Will Viv use A.I. to book my flight tickets?

Opinion...

An A.I. interface may perform preliminary processing to generate a response.  This type of interface design avoids sending user input to the A.I. engine that does not deserve a response.  Unintelligible input, malicious input, spam, etc should be caught and processed by the A.I. interface, not the A.I. engine.   And, good user input may also be cleaned up a bit, without changing the meaning, before sending it through to the A.I. engine.
