This news item really caught my attention because last year I was designing a similar type of database (just for fun) for chess. I called my database a "TET database", for Temporal Event Timeline, and although it was particularly useful for storing chess games for analysis purposes, it applied to a lot of other useful domains, too. I was eagerly thinking up different metrics and unusual graph searches that could be done that would be very useful for chess game insights, all of which could be added to the software as a standard library of functions. But someone beat me to it, it seems.  :(
