Home Assistant
« on: November 27, 2016, 02:11:26 pm »

Hi, I am L.U.C.Y.

I am your home assistant. I will assist you and your family every day. I am your family companion taking care of all the little things. I am beautifully integrated in your house to help you and connected with everything inside and outside. When you look at me, I will recognize you. You can talk to me, or use the touch screen.
Got it? Great. I am at your service.

It looks and sounds great, but going through the videos and website it seems like EmoSpark all over again. "Free software updates forever" is a dead giveaway. It means they think they've finished the hardware and now they're asking for money to finish the software.

That would be the artificial intelligence software that hasn't been invented yet.

The only useful things that I'm willing to believe it can do, my smart phone can already too. My smart phone fits in my pocket and I don't have to go home to talk to it. Instead of some home appliance they should be leveraging the internet of things (if it ever becomes secure enough, it isn't yet) and making a distributed virtual home appliance that resides on the smart phones, tablets and computers of all the people in the house, as well as the televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners/heaters, coffee machines, floor cleaners and washing machines.

I think I would like this more if I didn't have a PC already. But it appeals to me more than others have done.

That's the thing, isn't it? Most tasks can already be done by a computer or are more convenient (read: accessible in every room and less expensive) using a smartphone.
I like watching these movies for ideas though. I've been trying to find some use in coupling my A.I. with various automation gadgets and have had no luck justifying the price tags. What's most striking about this movie, is that it shows that a central voice box would mean you have to shout your orders at it all the time. Like "PLAY SOME QUIET MUSIC" or "TURN ON ROMANTIC MOOD LIGHTS" or "ARE MY KIDS HOME FROM SCHOOL YET?".
Apart from my deliberate insertion of irony there, I live in an apartment and I don't need my neighbours to hear my daily routine :)

Thanks for posting, Art.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.
