This is good news and bad. For one if AI cannot gain  copyrights or patent rights then that would lower the demand to use AI to solve some really hard problems like protein folding, finding new cures to diseases, developing new kinds of materials and even modifying itself to improve itself. However the nightmare of using AI as a patent troll engine is equally as problematic...

I don't think there is going to be a choice. If western countries don't allows inventions from AI to find intellectual property protections other countries like China, Russia, Turkey, India, etc will move forward with AI. That would put the west, comparably to those countries that place no limitations on AI, in the stone age...
