VANCOUVER -- Two Vancouver professors are adding some sizzle to social media with FaceFries, a newly released app that turns faces into 3D animated avatars. Steve DiPaola, director of the cognitive science program at Simon Fraser University and head of the university's iVizLab, teamed up with Liane Gabora, an associate psychology professor at UBC in a project aimed at injecting some innovation into social media with an app that lets users transform photos into chatty animated characters that can be shared through Facebook and other networks.
