MasterCard to use the power of selfies to protect your online shopping
23 February 2016, 12:00 am

MasterCard wants to use your face to help fend off fraudsters. Using a new system called MasterCard Identity Check -- or, colloquially, "selfie pay" -- the credit card company will use biometric methods like face recognition and fingerprint scans to better secure online shopping.

Wow! And if you think identity thieves have had a difficult time just wait until they hijack your photo then they'll be set to do all kinds of damage.

Looking at the even bigger picture, the System / government will now have a photo ID of Everyone who uses a credit card (eventually), and they will have a face to go with the name.  You must possess the mark if you are to buy or sell or trade...and so on....

Selfies indeed! >:(
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Yes, this is a downright terrible idea. Contrary to passwords, people's faces are literally publicly accessible.
It would make it slightly more difficult for crooks if the user had to smile on command so that holding a Facebook profile picture up to the camera won't do, but I'm sure that's even not occurred to them. And fingerprints have been hackable for quite some time if I recall the 90's.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.

Well I hope their software is better able to recognize faces then the ones I tested. The ones I tested had problems identifying me if i wore anything on my face like a hat or  glasses. I also had to be faced a certain way and the picture be closer.  It would really suck to use that and have it say it does not recognize you.
So sue me
