Microsoft's Invoke
« on: June 15, 2017, 01:33:09 pm »
This is done to include Microsoft in the growing market of digital assistants and connected devices that are helping and impacting our lives.

Aside from features and abilities, price is also a determining factor for most people but I have included this for all devices / assistants.

Thanks for your participation. O0

I'm still on the fence with these things. I really don't think I need to voice control things as I am happy the way I am doing things.

Besides my experiments with voice control on WIndows 10 have been poor - must be my accent ???

And then there's the all in one thing - well I have various online services from different companies and I cannot see this all coming together. You know the thing...NetFlix, YouTube, Amazon music and all those things. Try finding a device that supports all those, I can't see Invoke doing it thus far if the past is anything to go by.

My final gripe is this - if you like music then why on earth would you opt for a single, probably tinny, little speaker like this ?

Agree with the speaker thing although from a few people I've spoken with, they use a separate Bluetooth speaker to broadcast their music. Bigger is better in this case.

The real purpose of these devices is to provide us access to a variety of information and included music selections on-the-fly, that is to say, a song that we might not own nor have immediate access to at that moment. To get immediate weather forecasts, sports, traffic conditions, stock reports, ordering food, reminders, shopping lists, jokes, and idle chat about assorted trivia, calling Uber, etc. and music, is in itself, a pretty useful and fun device to have. An added feature built in to a lot of them is the ability to work in harmony with a host of other household devices like window & door sensors, cameras, lighting, thermostats, etc. Most of these "assistants" will connect with the IOT in what promises to be a more enriching manner for our lives. We shall see.

I guess it comes down to one's purpose. The audiophile will opt for as much clean, pure, powerful sounds as possible whereas someone working in the kitchen might be content to hear their music selection coming from a couple of 2-3" speakers in a counter-top device.

* thanks for the links...I omitted them... :-[

You should apply to be one of their sales people Art  :D ;)

You make good points, I'll wait until I have the urge to try it. In the meantime I will keep pointing and clicking.  :idiot2:

I do still think that a lot has to happen before I am taken by them.

I'm happy that Microsoft finally decides to have its own personal digital assistant. However, I'm a little bit deceived as they are all the same. After seeing Google Home and Alexa, Microsoft should have done a different design. It seems to be just another useless speaker ahah
