POLICE ROBOT KILLS SHOOTER
« on: July 08, 2016, 05:01:23 pm »
BREAKING NEWS

Five Police dead, seven Police wounded.
A shooter is deceased as a Police robot
is deployed in a sort of robotic Kamikaze
attack, as widely reported in the news.

All the facts are not known yet, but in
terms of Artificial Intelligence discussion,
this begs the question: In general, what
are the implications of Police robots?

For the specific purpose of A.I. discussion,
with no insensitivity to those in the tragedy...
The news is reporting this was the first time
a Police robot was deployed as a terminator.

The Police robot had the shooter cornered
2 feet away, communicating until it detonated
a C4 explosive.

With Police layoffs on the rise in the economy,
does this Police robot case signal that human
Police just became obsolete?

It was still the police who were doing the steering and triggering. And if it hadn't been for the hostages being dead already, a bomb would not have been an option. There was also an immediate threat, that is, a mass murderer still firing at cops. Whether they lob a grenade around the corner or put the grenade on wheels and steer it around the corner doesn't make much difference to me.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.

Gun do not kill people kill.
Robots do not kill people kill.

Guns do not kill AGI's kill.

Don said, "Whether they lob a grenade around the corner or put the grenade on wheels and steer it around the corner doesn't make much difference to me."

Exactly, "they" replaced by "it" doesn't make much difference.   Police officers are being laid off from their jobs in significant numbers.  This may be due to budget cuts to avoid raising taxes, or to otherwise save money.

And, now it has been proven that Police robots are an effective option to do those jobs.  Have police officers become obsolete by Police robots with plastic explosives?

Government's should pay for the best when it come to law enforcement.  AI, AGI, ASI, or human.
Here in Los Angeles, budget cut are causing the hiring of the worst cops ever. I can see
this same drama happening here in L.A.

I think in certain situations it would be better to outfit the track-bot with an FPV mounted gun (hopefully short barrel or carbine). This way the police could monitor exactly what the track-bot is seeing from a safe distance, then acquire the target and fire one well-placed shot. The target goes down, the hostage (if any) survives as does the track-bot to fight another day!

This also serves to take away the notion that the robot (track-bot) is acting on its own in a violent and uncaring manner, etc., which the media so loves to depict.

Just some thoughts for one possible future.

In the future mass produced bot bodies will be cheap. A kamikaze police drone
can avoid dieing by download or upload out of the body at the last fraction of a second.
 Souls are not cheap.

Well thank the gods for that otherwise, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Robots might have a case!  :o
