Social robots such as Pepper can help with household chores - but at what cost to privacy?

For all the stories about the perils of artificial intelligence, these machines are strangely disarming. First of all, some of them - such as the new Buddy companion robot from French firm Blue Frog Robotics - look like they've had a cartoon smiley face painted on them.

Imagine queries like:
Code
SELECT lastTimeOfBathing FROM myFriends WHERE jobOfPerson IN physicalWork
when deciding whom to visit today...

Gosh, like satellite cameras aren't enough.

Seems like decades have been and gone where we keep hearing robots will help in homes or is it just me :D

I did see a guy in Japan I think who has opened a robot restaurant, ie most stuff was done by robots for humans.

Mainly these robots "help" in terms of reminders and voice-command internet surfing and turning up your thermostat. One doesn't particularly need a robotic body for that, but at least their price is almost affordable.
I more or less like Pepper's design. It's a bit basic but I think it has the non-threatening style we ought to go with. I feel a bit odd about having to stare at her chest though, where the screen is.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.

I heard that the first chess machines were rather interesting. There were boxes of a size of human with a screen outputting the next move in the game. And they had an employee hiding in the box. Box also had little air holes, so that the employee would have something to breathe in.

hehe :)

PS
and today's chess machines? size of matches, yet so brutal. Chess-mate coming for you in 5 moves. And it says "Buahahaha" at the end of the game.

I think you were referring to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Turk

Yes, the early chess computers played a decent level for amateurs but today's computer chess games will beat an average skilled player in a very short time!

There are a number of good Open Source chess engines available and they all, for the most part play really challenging games!

Case in point...you no longer see any computers pitted against any grandmasters do you?...It's already been done!
Now it's computer against computer to test the mettle of the individual programmers.

Your move....
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!
