Another 'self-aware' robot

http://phys.org/news/2015-04-robot-self-awareness.html

As usual I share some more provocative titles related to A.I. , even if the content is not as useful or informative - as is the current scenario.

I do not know where this is going - all of that bragging about how they created a 'self-aware organism based on artificial neural networks'. I am to be honest and say I am sick of the phrases 'self-aware' and 'neural' , 'artificial' and any combination of the enlisted.

What if evolution and consciousness is not about being more 'self-aware' (blah!) but rather - more aware of your environment. I find self-aware somewhat narcissistic and selfish. What if evolution is all about becoming more aware of the universe you are a part of... A larger organism - a giant cell, working for an even larger super-celestial or multi-dimensional creature. Life is about unity and becoming a part of something larger, something much bigger than what you could ever become on your own.

Do not take this is a fact - it is after all, my personal belief and I believe it to be a fine philosophy to live by in life. Drop all the research and researcher talk - think. At least for a moment think about life and it's meaning. Think naturally - what do you really desire? What do we all really, 'desire' ?

P.S. The article I posted and the research associated with it has by no means earned this extended comment and broad discussion-opening. I simply used it with the hope of sparking a fine fire that could keep us warm for a short period of our lives.

Ah, April 1st! Nonetheless, that does not mean that all published articles that day are bogus - this one was not exciting enough... If they wanted to fool the researcher community, they would've gone with something like "DARPA Releases army of miniature self-aware crawlers".

Anyhow, as I pointed out before (does anyone even bother reading the entirety of my articles?) the news article was not the point of this whole discussion.

I would also appreciate broader and more constructive replies if anyone cares to join the discussion.

Come on...admit it! We've all done it before and it's OK to have a chuckle even if at ones self. It's all good and no harm, no foul.

Some of our biggest truths are found in science fiction!

Good day mate!
