Will Tesla Bot look as designed?
« on: August 31, 2021, 12:54:13 pm »
Will Tesla Bot look the same as designed when it is out of factory?
I'm font of Atlas by Boston Dynamics, but it looks like an ape for balancing or something.
Atlas is more advanced than Asimo, I guess; and now Tesla Bot should be at another level?

They show off the body of the robot,  and its amazing and all,  but the most important thing to Ai is the software!  the method its running.
Elon said it would be using something similar to the self driving car,   thats fine for vision, but moving with rotating levers (legs) is a bit different than wheels.

I have doubts about whether it will even leave the manufacturing floor with the intended level of capability ... let alone look as designed.

The "technical details" shared here are fairly vague -- they could have come from somebody's sci-fi novel rather than a real, mature design. ("Human-level hands" ... as if it were just that easy! "Lightweight materials" ... uh, which ones?) And doing the actual work to turn a design into reality has a tendency to explode dreams from the marketing department. If they persevere long enough to make this a usable product, it could easily turn out to look very different.

As for the software ... Tesla hasn't invented a bona fide self-driving car yet. What they have is an "autopilot" system that still requires active supervision by the driver. Granted, a human-sized robot stumbling around is not so dangerous as a car out of control, so maybe they can get away with a system that only works *most* of the time. But human home and office environments are also less standardized than roads, methinks ... which could make the training process even harder. And as Magnus has already mentioned the control requirements for a biped (with "human-level hands," no less) are much more complex than the ones for a wheeled vehicle.

It'll be interesting to see what they do, but I am definitely not placing my order yet.

I find that not so perfect with the rotors too. That Tesla Bot should come with artificial muscles and tendons, we need to advance this artificial muscle tech, not rotors.

Musk isn't much a joker, he will persevere long enough to make it real.
I guess it won't look that truly humanoid too, do Musk even think that it will look an ape just as Atlas? :2funny:
And yes, it's not roads, that Tesla Bot needs AGI instead of specific supervised learning for vision and radar only.
I guess the price will be the same price as a Tesla, possibly.

I have to wonder if Musk still believes in all the gloom and doom he spread around for he's definitely speaking with forked tongue these days. He's bought AI companies, fervently developing AI for his cars, and now promoting future robots. I'll forgive him if he's had a change of heart, for I was once worried about autonomous AIs until I I began thinking about what it would take to Motivate an AI to do anything. That's not to say there isn't some danger in AI - but it will come from the humans who direct AGIs to commit acts of aggression against humanity. It will come from the haters and creators of malware.

Bring Ai to the public is as good as giving them a loaded gun.

What AIs do: The law will cover this, I think; for example, the owner has to take responsibility for whatever AIs do.
AGIs against humans: Singularity isn't too near, I suppose, however, it's still the owner to take responsibility.
Hackers hack into AIs: This is scary, far in the future for AGI to be truly possible, robots would be mainly with hardware-powered AIs, not software and thus harder to hack.

What if the AI is claiming a self-defense case ? Like, "he wanted to kill me, I just wanted to survive".

What if the AI is claiming a self-defense case ? Like, "he wanted to kill me, I just wanted to survive".
Machines will be classified as inferior to humans, machines have no equal right about self-defence.
Machines can do something to avoid damages towards themselves, however, those actions that harm humans will not be in the allowed list.  :D

In case a human damages a machine, he has to pay the owner somehow.  O0

Thats the truth,    but things start to get a bit grey area when the machine is able to carry out useful conversations,   it still is a soulless machine, but it can seem alive when it isnt!

These definitions might be correct:
  • Soulful: Born with natural spirit
  • Conscious: Machine functions on its own
So yeah, a machine seems alive (conscious) but never soulful  O0
