One of the most significant AI milestones in history was quietly ushered into being this summer. We speak of the quest for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), probably the most sought-after goal in the entire field of computer science. With the introduction of the Impala architecture, DeepMind, the company behind AlphaGo and AlphaZero, would seem to finally have AGI firmly in its sights.

AGI does mean able to do many tasks, however AGI should mean (or a new term, maybe "intelligence") should refer to real intelligence - a brain with knowledge and one that discovers new. Because we want it to solve cancer etc etc by generating new knowledge and generating new tools. No facts no nothin. No new same old same old! Both are important!

Learning to walk, to play games, to find shorter routes, to drive to a location safely, etc, are good, but what about learning to make new knowledge>procedures>tools? There's your way unto cures and inventions. As soon as you want a new nano tool blob to cure cancer or a new doctor procedure, you're gonna need lots a facts/knowledge, and then you gotta use some procedures and tools to make further new knowledge/tools/procedures. When you want to cure cancer by....you're not gonna want it to learn to play video games, what you want is knowledge/procedures/tools, and the discovery process working *there/here instead, finding patterns, similar links, etc. It'll began seeing/thinking/acting in sentences too.

They got Impala to be multi-functional, but it has no facts, no tools. But hey maybe it does have lots of different types of data, idk, maybe maps, facts, object features, equations, PLs, etc. It needs facts, and to discover new facts though.

Intelligence changes the world. The universe.
