I wonder what Morti would think about that. I know it scares the hell outta me. One day, walking down the street, minding my own business, and WHAM! Stepped on by a giant mutant wombat. A week later, I'm keeping company with some pre-teen geek in a chatroom? No thanks. I'll take my turn in the lake of fire.

I like the idea of 'immortality technologies' as I call them, but I think attempting to reconstruct a person from external reference is a bad idea. I think everyone has a little bit of a 'secret self' that they never share with others. External reference just won't capture that. I think those who are gone, are gone. I'm sorry, Ray Kurzweil. I know how badly he wants his dad back.  :'(

That website reads like a bad religion pamphlet.  Promising me the idea of eternal life in the form of a lil' stereotypical robot version of me running around after I die?  No good.  Now if they offered the promise of a hundred lil' stereotypical robot versions of me running around after I die, that could be fun.  They could form a tribe or something.

Having a hundred or so "lil' stereotypical robot version(s) of" you wouldn't be any more "fun" to you than having only one, I think. Unless, of course, they all share in a "Group Consciousness" that allows you to be any/all of them at any point in time that you wish. Now THAT would be a kick. Having your own little cybernetic ant farm, lol.

I just finished a rather "short", short story in ebook form entitled Continuation by C.D. Clements. It sort of follows the above referenced idea of continuing on after death and the story while short in length, does offer some insight into the problems facing such technology.

Reminds me of the old Conan the Barbarian scene where the spirit of his dead girlfriend appears and asks, "Do you want to live forever?"
