There is actually a reason for that. I know it seems really one-sided. But the reason is the structure. In Mac OS X, there is a really English-Alike language called, AppleScript. Which is basically English. and AppleScript connects every application, even the 3rd party ones, to each other. So you can simply grab one variable from one app, and use it in another. This brings 100% flexibility within a system like this. Because you may wish to do more complex tasks than just switching to the next song.

"Use that contact name, and create a new contact in app X, and use that e-mail address from that e-mail, and create another contact in app Y, oh and send that project to the second contact, and Bcc the first one"

so this is an example of what you can do. And we don't need to hand-code any of this. We're just writing the structure, so it'll be ready for weird commands just like the one quoted above..

But in Windows, because there are no universal-connecting languages, you have to hand-code every script, every single script scratch from the beginning.

And my personal opinion :

The answer to the question "Why did AI concept has developed so little for the past 5 - 10 years?" is hidden in your post somewhere between that "percentage" area.

Various computer sources pretty much agree on the percentages:

Users of Operating Systems:

Windows - 90%
Apple / Mac - 9%
Linux - 1%

Much of my dabbling with Linux has been pretty impressive as their software being predominantly open source, has worked well with a variety of applications. Some hardware connections however, can take some additional steps in order to get things working properly.

The shame is that it never caught on as a lot of folks thought it required a degree in Geekdom in order to do anything. Most people I know don't even have a clue or remembrance of DOS commands!

While Mac's OS is really fast and reliable, it along with Apple / Macs, has always catered to the higher end of economic and academic organizations and people. The masses seem to love Wal-Mart and Best Buy, not Apple stores.

I meant no disrespect in my posting, only citing my own opinion FWIW.

Either way, I wish you well and good luck!
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

So I guess this has flopped hugely, and nobody cares to see what they actually did. Fusing A.L.I.C.E and a a computer was no easy task, genius, but not easy! Goodbye I guess?

Hi, David, and welcome to AI Dreams! :)

I don't know that it's "flopped", per se, but it's certainly not being talked about here, much.

BTW, interesting name. Only 2 letters off from mine. :)

As far as I know the project was not abandoned.  John was putting together a team, but we have not heard from him lately.  You could always send him a private message here, the system will notify him by email.

Haha, similar name ah? Crazy times! I have researched his project and heard nothing more of it since this forum? It's rather odd I'd say! I was looking to put together a similar project and needed people but thought, if this guy is managing this my plans wont come near? Would be interesting to see how he was got on allowing A.L.I.C.E to get some control over a computer! would be amazing!

I got to say that i'm not an applescript genius or in fact in any coding i'm actually only on my first script editting.the thing is that since i was just a boy i always wanted to have a dla like jarvis. the problem is i am more focused on the armor than the digital life assistant But a year ago i found an article on jason barratford i'm sorry if i misspelled his name  also sorry for my english I am  canadian and trying to improve it as much as possible.
So i decided to see what  could  i learn on applescript too so i could maybe make my own jarvis but i don' have many resources and i'm looking for help.  i have made multiples conversation and speackable items on windows voice recognition. but this was not going in the direction i wanted. i then began to use applescript learn the more i could  listed some ideas i would want jarvis to be able to do. and i got to say that what to seems to have done so far is impressive and i and curious to know how you did it. i don't know if you want to share some script . anyway i wish you cood luck to reach your goal i will keep working on mine.
