Random value generator by a single neuron or DNN
« on: May 11, 2020, 05:25:12 am »
AI is supposed to do anything human or traditional computer can do, that is what we expect AI to be.

So 'generating random value' is also a task included in the scope that AI should be able to do  :knuppel2:

I'm trying to generate random value using a single neuron but the outcome isn't much good.
Any suggestions?

PS.
Random weight initialisation is allowed coz weights are constants at start.
Using 'random' function is forbidden anywhere else.

I don't know if this video will answer your question or not, although it does talk about random numbers, neurons firing, and a few other fascinating things as well. However I'm sure you'll find it inspirational.

Deep Thought had it all wrong the meaning of life or existence isn't 42 it's 4.669!

Actually, if you divide 42 by 4.669 you practically get 9, if that means anything?

Well, to some it does: http://numerology-thenumbersandtheirmeanings.blogspot.com/2011/05/number-9.html  :D

I'm surprised that "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" fans haven't caught on to 4.669 yet.    ::)

Not to discourage your efforts but here's a paper that says humans can't generate random numbers:

Very true. My contractors were not allowed to toss a pebble over their shoulder to locate a spot to take a soil sample because the human toss would not be random, no matter how many attempts were made.

Thus, many humans have been making the same stupid mistakes year after year!! Go figure! ;)
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

I'm thinking the other way round, humans would be able to give perfect randomness.

Let's say a human is to give a random number by giving a list of digits.
A human somehow remembers a part of all the numbers that he's given out before,
and also many of the recent values.
So he would give a number that has never been there before,
this is even better than uniform random.

I'm not sure you quite understand the concept of randomness.
A number which is deliberately chosen to be different from all previous numbers in a sequence, is no more random than a number which is deliberately chosen to be similar to a previous number in the sequence.
If what you're after are unique or maximally varying numbers rather than random numbers, then you may have a point.
