Neural network designer sources released
« on: October 30, 2012, 10:46:44 am »
Thanks to some help of the source-forge team, I finally managed to upload the entire legacy repository. So from now, all sources for both the network designer, the library and several demo apps (like an mvc3 client and the android application) are now available from here.

Hi Bragi,

I amended your title to include 'neural network designer' so search engines pick it up better.

OK Jan, so now that you've given away your experiment, are you planning a new creation? Different approach? Custom? <hint...> ^-^

No, no new creations.
I was planning on shifting from mostly chatbot oriented towards more of a general purpose AI platform that's able to handle both statistical as pattern matching approaches, which can be used in other projects as is needed. Something you can talk to and also use for doing serious number crunching like kaggle competitions.
So I spent lots of effort trying to get the memory usage (and other things) in control, which is slowly starting to work I think (this was incredibly difficult in combination with the multi threaded nature of the thing). There are still some issues left to resolve (read lots of profiling still to do), but it's getting pretty good in working with large datasets and fairly fast, especially if you do the job in parallel. So I figured it was time to move to a next stage. Somehow, open-sourcing it seemed to go with that. It's also under the GPL, so I'm not exactly giving away the code, there are some protections in place.
In conjunction with this shift is an effort to build a set of general purpose AI libraries (modules). I've already written a random forest, single decision trees are almost done. I've got an n-gram/pattern definition generation module in the pipeline (which will go hand in hand with the 'creative bot' I mentioned a while ago). The Tag-a-tweet website is part of this work. I already have the pattern-matching module (which was greatly improved upon for the insult detection competition). This morning, I just wrote the start of an AIML conversion/import module. I also have the 'cluster/search/product suggestion' system that I did for another kaggle competition. And there are lots more to come.
I'm also writing (or have already written) some new tutorials on the latest features.
Basically, an empty schedule   O0
