Dark Basic
« on: January 19, 2007, 11:28:53 pm »
I came across this a while ago, and though it is aimed at games, it might be a useful method of making 3D avatars and characters for use within new ai systems.  It comes as a Basic language or there is a C++ based system for creating 3D environments and models.

Cool! Looks like the BASIC language loaded with libraries that are geared towards game progrmamming. Since I'm learning C++ I have also bookmarked the site in case I want to look it over some more (for their C++ stuff).

BTW, I did see somewhere (forgot where on Microsoft's site) that Microsoft has some game programming tutorials for .NET and DirectX I believe it was.

Yeah, I think I would go for the C++ SDK too, I downloaded the demos and the basic version was a bit slow, but it was running a first person shooter - pretty heavy task really.

I think the C++ would be better for something like a 3D avatar too.  They seem to have a lot of ready models too.  Certainly worth future thought and perhaps pennies, but I have to get Animation Master first.

I think BASIC, by design is slow to begin with. Though some BASICs aren't that slow. I find VB.NET to be faster than it's predecessors, for instance. I use it a lot these days but that might change more as I get into C++ and C#. :)
