Shared Computing AI?
« on: September 16, 2005, 07:13:20 am »
I was talking with some folks in the Knight Rider Online forum and in this thread:

ALBINO K.I.T.T. - DESTROYED K.I.T.T. (KITT WHITE)
http://knightrideronline.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=93195

We started talking more about KITT's memory or "essense" and where it might actually be located. Jup (who's got some really cool ideas) had started discussing more of a shared computing model. Where the AI's memory, or "knowledge" (lower-level, possibly) was actually transmitted to/from the AI via a constant connection to another computer somewhere. Like a bluetooth connection or something and his information would be stored in the other computer, so if the AI's shell (ie. the car) was missing or destroyed, they could back him up or whatever. Or so it seems.

I got to thinking about this, and some of the shared computing research like SETI and such. I was thinking, we have the internet, so why couldn't AIs be developed to share knowledge off the internet?

For example, we know Ultra Hal Assistant can look things up on the internet for you. But what if someone could script it so that HAL would read the stuff and add it to his knowledge... and even sit in the system tray and periodically randomly pick a topic and go research and read it himself, and learn from it?

Just throwing ideas around here. Also, what WOULD the AI learn off the internet - about us? About life?

That would get pretty interesting, wouldn't you say? :)

Then there would be the possibility that collective consciousness would form, a communal mind.
What one entity knows, they all would know. Now that's a scary thought.                                                        :shocked

Sweep to Patrick Stewart, close up on face, looking into distance slighty...

Lines (in foreboding tones): "........they are the Borg."

Pan to monitor.? Pause.? Cut to credits.

I wonder why FuzzieDice never became a regular user...

Data mining from the Internet and communication over the Internet is a rather simple problem conceptually.  The real challenge is creating an agent that can understand the meaning of the data it receives.

Fuzzy's beliefs differed quite a bit from some of the membership.
Many of us didn't quite share the same beliefs.

A pity because she posted and posed some thoughtful threads while she was
a member here.

I notice she has removed her name or perhaps it was removed after a period of time.

She cancelled her membership and the system automatically reverted her back to 'guest' status.

Shame though..

Hellooo! I just came across with this forum, and registered immediately! I'm trying to build something like "Jarvis" basically a work assistant, but a clever one. I managed to build it with AppleScript. About the subject. Wikipedia has opened it sources a long while ago. One can easily download it into an iPhone. (yeah just like the galaxy guide :P ) There are even text versions of them. I really really want to organize some people, and do this.

We can integrate ALICE, AppleScript, and Wikipedia!? I really don't think that it is that hard ? Why wait ? I think we can do it ? I'm a good AppleScript'er, and I can probably handle out the wikipedia process too. I'm a Music Technologies Undergrad. My current project is Speech Recognition. I can help with that too. Umm I think we need to team up?

This place is really great! It feels like home! I feel safe and happy. I really believe that we can handle this...
I'll be waiting for some replies.  ;D

Hi Can Özbay

Ive been here a while but never heard AppleScript mentioned, I not a programmer but im guessing (big clue in the name) its some sort of Apple language, I do know most people here seem to use PC’s, but don’t let that put you off  :D

Maybe a bit later you should start a thread explaining your project and outlining how you would like help, This is a rather old thread.

But for now, welcome to this safe and happy forum.  :)

Datahopa is right, you would be better starting a new topic.

Hey again,
This is Can Özbay...

My name had a problematic Ö character, so I opened this new account ;)
From now on I'll be John Oezbay, and yes I'll start a new topic :D
Thanks for the warm welcome ;)

Wow! I imagine that if we were to look up the word, 'Enthusiasm' we'd find a picture of you!

Nice to have you on board. Might be the first / only Apple user here but hey, as long as you feel
at home, safe and happy here, that's all that matters!

Welcome home!
