I just found a dead link on the footer: Terms of Service

Thanks for spotting that issue Data. It just needed to be changed from http to https and it works now.

I added more server aliases in the web server configuration and FireFox now gets forwarded properly from http to https so that should have fixed the problem that Zero was having, although Safari still won't forward automatically; I guess it must be even more paranoid than FireFox.

No probs infurl  :)

I had a feeling it needed an "s"

All seems to be good now, at lest for me, I do stull lurk around here.

Actually while I'm here, me and Freddy had our sites linked for many years, I still have the AI Dreams banner showing on my site, I'm very happy to stay linked up if you are.

If you would still like to be linked and if you get the time, no pressure from me, could you change the description of my site from:

Quote
Friendly community site, graphics, Formula 1, Science and fun !

to

If its modern tech we want to hear about it and talk about I.T.

You will find the link on the board index, the last board showing.

Thanks infurl and my apologies for being a bit of a pain.

No worries at all Data, it's done. It looks like yours is the only site that's linked at the moment. I wonder what happened to the others and whether there are any other sites that we should link.

infurl you are a gentleman  :)

Both Dreams and DH were linked to quite a few more sites in the past but some have gone and others are covered in adverts and not something worth linking to any more.

I think things have changed in the field of DIY AI and related websites, Dreams is one of the only good guys left and there seems to be less people interested these days as well, the real hardcore seem to remain though, which is great. It's sad but some of the early people and friends we met have passed away now.

I expanded my site to cover more topics in an attempt to liven things up a bit, well that and I also started to get interested in other things.

I would consider linking to other sites but they have to be the right type, quality over quantity  ;)

I have that perception too, but you know what they say: change is the only constant. These things run in cycles, there was a lot of hype generated by the successes of deep learning over the past decade and now the elements of value have become things that we use every day without being aware of their true nature; the rest is just chaf drifting away in the wind.

As someone who scours the internet every day for interesting things I've noticed a sharp downturn in the number of noteworthy developments that seemed worth posting here. I'm not prepared to start posting rubbish just to fill up the space but it's always good to see when someone does find something. It's possible that it's just because of the pandemic and things will pick up in a year or two, or maybe we'll have to wait for the next cycle which could take decades.

I also suspect that much of the new talent is being attracted to Reddit and Discord lately. There is a preponderance of aspiring professionals there and it does seem now that to make a difference, you have to have a PhD and be part of a large team backed by a billion dollar corporation. However even if that is true and all the low-hanging fruit is gone, the equipment that we have access to continues to grow in power and we will always be able to have fun doing interesting new things.

change is the only constant.

If our universe was completely random, this would be true. We however have laws of physics, so patterns are everywhere. On the flip side, I'm just a machine and no one is watching the movie: Our Universe, so I don't even know I'm here or am alive.... it's a lifeless computer running with no one home. And maybe I was just turned on, or cloned. Maybe our world is a long random sequence that happens to look like it has laws of physics, one of the random runs would make our history! Maybe we're in a simulator, or dream. Dreams look rich, and you don't even question them.

Patterns make bigger new patterns. The new next pattern we seek (ex. AGI or a faster computer) can be made of the one we have but we need other patterns to make something bigger, and is always being attempted. These parts are needed to be put together, to make the AGI. Some parts being made right now are trash. Some gold.

Bigger things can do more than if were individual components of the same quantity. I'm just 1 guy working on AGI. But their whole company is focused on a particular way of thinking, else they wouldn't be a team if they didn't listen to each other. Their big team however has better exploration, but I believe I'm still ahead of them in the theory for now. Perhaps, even though they can do more exploring than me and would have found my path by now if it were right, they are not able to explore too much or will feel shame with their colleagues. Why is it, that they write papers that are narrow-paged, like books are as well on AI? We are using computers, not paper anymore. Clearly they are limiting themselves. And instead of explaining their AI, they write complex papers.

From:
https://www.nature.com/scitable/ebooks/english-communication-for-scientists-14053993/writing-scientific-papers-14239285/

"No, no, If you make the paper too easy to read, everyone will know how you got the results!

As a scientist, you are expected to share your research work with others in various forms. Probably the most demanding of these forms is the paper published in a scientific journal. Such papers have high standards of quality, and they are formally disseminated and archived. Therefore, they constitute valuable, lasting references for other scientists and for you, too. In fact, the number of papers you publish and their importance (as suggested by their impact factor) are often viewed as a reflection of your scientific achievements. Writing high-quality scientific papers takes time, but it is time well invested.

As you may have noticed, however, many scientific papers fail to usefully communicate research work to their audience. They focus on the authors instead of on the readers by failing to clarify the motivation for the work or by including unnecessary details. Or they try to impress the readers rather than inform them. As a result, they are interesting to or understandable by only a small set of highly specialized readers. Effective scientific papers, in contrast, are interesting and useful to many readers, including newcomers to the field.

This unit will help you write better scientific papers in English. In particular, it will help you select and organize your content, draft your paper, and revise your writing so that your final paper is useful to a broad audience not just a few specialists."

LOCKSUIT, I'm sorry I really wouldn't know what to post after reading your last post here, my bad.

As someone who scours the internet every day for interesting things ...

Yeah you and me both infurl  :) I think it's great hunting down and finding new and interesting tech.

A peace of tech that found it's way into my life a while back now was Amazon Alexa, I don't know if anyone else would be interested but a topic or maybe even a board about Alexa or any of the smart speakers might be an idea to have here, maybe there is something already but I couldn't find anything specific.

I have Alexa controlling much of my house now, using voice to turn things on and off has become second nature to me, Alexa is also there all the time to answer "some" questions I might have or do a bit of quick maths.

It's capability and uses increase with time too, normal people can make "skills" for it that can add new features.

Some of you guys might know that already.

Personally I think it is one of the best "real world" uses of A.I in the home.

Just a thought  ;)

I've linked to this place for years - http://www.square-bear.co.uk/mitsuku/links.htm but don't worry about linking back, as my old Mitsuku site is more of an archive now. Mitsuku has evolved into a new character called Kuki and I now conentrate on www.kuki.bot
