Haptek or not?
« on: February 22, 2011, 10:02:22 pm »
I just came across this site and though I have not tried it, was wondering whether it was using the lovely and ever evolving (not) Haptek engine?
The site is:

Thoughts are appreciated and anyone can play!! ;)

Thanks for taking one for the team!! Good to know.

I've also seen a lot of nicely done avatars / talking heads that
look practically lifelike then to my realization, I discover them
to be nicely crafted heads using one of those move the lips
programs similar to Mimic, etc.

One day soon, someone will hit upon a winning combination
that is quick and responsive, higher polygon count to avoid
blockyness and smooth, connected animation of the mouth
and facial features.

I meant to reply to this...yes flash...

Although, a long time back there was a rumour that Haptek were working on a Flash implementation of their player.  And recently I read somewhere in cyber space that they are working on a major overhaul...

But then this is Haptek, will it ever happen....

Flash Haptek characters, wait (loool) and see...

Pandorabots with a Haptek interface were great but nowadays, when I read Meghan's logs, many "clients" can't see her, she's just a text bot.

The other option is to create a flash bot with Pandorabots and Oddcast. 2D chatbots are finally not so bad. They move eyes and follow the mouse, have lipsync and everyone can see them on a modern computer (I guess).

And they can be very cute. Flat but cute...  :P

GT,

It might be that some of those visitors are using Windows 7 64 bit, and we know Haptek's People Putty does not play nicely with it.
I guess backward compatibility can only stretch so far back....

I haven't commented because i noticed it was flash and I don't know anything about flash.
Would it be possible to do a wmv of a haptar and then convert it to flash?

I saw the flash and said it can't be Haptek.  I've been working with a Haptek full body Alactive, and things are going pretty well.  I've got a autoHapGenerator that can make haps, I don't feel there are enough and some I just don't like or don't see a use for.  Anyways to make films you need the hap to generate it.  I downloaded a free Alice type chatbot program that makes use of playing a section of film, it loops so it gets boring if you don't change the scenes.  The Alice program thay are using isn't very good, it makes Hal seem like a genius.
As far as I can see Haptek needs a higher poly count,  Freddy had said this ages ago and after spending time with a character I could see what he meant.  For the heck of it I checked out some adult sites and thay have some pretty good 3D characters but to interface them with a chat bot is another thing.
Speaking of Haptek has anyone worked with the vrHaptek Plugin,  It looks like it uses Hal's response to trigger haps.
