Needing a Java based avatar.
« on: March 12, 2009, 02:15:38 pm »
I'm asking on behalf of a person who got in touch with me today.  What is needed is a JAVA based, animated avatar of some description, with the kind of interaction that is possible with Haptek and others.  This is to be joined to a chatbot, so you will recognise what is needed here.  The whole thing would be run in an applet presumably, sorry but I don't know JAVA.

I have not come across anything suitable in all this time and wonder if any of the members know of anything.

Many thanks  :)

Not much knoweldge of JAVA myself, but would imagine could be done easily enough, but not to the extent of Haptek, I would imagine best thing at moment would be something akin to to an MS agent.

Hi Freddy (It's me who sent you an email earlier today)...
Many thanks for your prompt reply and actions! Your suggestion to use haptek may have lead me to a solution.
I've read in the FAQs of haptek that I may use javascript to communicate between the java applet and the haptek player.
However I would be really glad if someone would suggest a solution which would only require java technology (including JavaFX).

I tried several forums however it seems that the java way of doing chatterbot is by 3d avatars with the use of vrml whereas I am looking for a simple 2d avatar that can provide simple but animating interaction. If I do not find a solution I will try to integrate a flash movie inside java. There is an API called JFlash that can do this. Come to that, do you happen to know of a free flash-based avatar that can move its head according to the mouse's position as in http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f5d922d97e345aa1?
