Title: Talking GIF Animation
Post by: 8pla.net on July 28, 2017, 03:15:27 pm
This is a voice synthesis experiment to connect a JavaScript Text To Speech engine to a GIF image animation.  Being TTS in JS may set it apart from other talking GIF animations from this project that seem to use Text To Speech voices in the web browser which are installed locally on the PC.

To alpha test it, simply click the text box, and a new phrase will be generated for the avatar to speak using Text To Speech.  You could also replace the random phrase with your own phrase and it will read yours instead.   Thanks for your feedback.

While I understand it to be an "experiment", that TTS Voice sounds worse than those old voices of Microsoft's early days with Merlin, Peedy and such.
No offense but the avatar you've chosen to use is cute but that voice has to go. It was so high at first, I had a hard time hearing it. My dog, however, had no problem. ;)

I am literally the opposite of offended, Art.
Your feedback is really useful to me.

Art,

Based on your feedback, I updated the avatar for this experiment.

Wow that green screen leaves a lingering red blur on my retina - really, after being on that page I see red everywhere. I suggest a light grey if it's something a person is meant to look at for any length of time.  :o

Is this with the avatar system that we were talking about before ?

OK...while the voice is not as high as the previous one, if it were slowed down some, it would make for easier listening and understanding.

I like the "Smiley Wisdom" avatar...quite cute!

The background color is a bit harsh / loud for one's eyes. I too would suggest a softer shade such as a lighter blue or gray.

Making progress... O0

8man - Your project would have been impressive about 20 years ago but looks very dated now. The voice is pretty bad.

Here's a talking avatar for Mitsuku that streams on Twitch 24/7 : https://www.twitch.tv/mitsuku_irl

All feedback, including criticism, is extremely appreciated because it supports the design process.

My classic style avatar is self contained.  It does not rely on a server, or text to speech installed on a PC.

This is not meant to criticize server based avatars in any way.  A client based avatar is far more economic.

Your 3D talking avatar is really super terrific, replacing a webcam video with a 3D animated video is cutting edge.

The feedback, which was posted temporarily to help the 3D avatar developers, has now been removed.
