Fun with Mr Mind
« on: July 02, 2005, 03:34:00 am »
A lot of you may know about the site & program called Mr. Mind.

The program challenges the user to prove he or she is human.

For some reason (perhaps a brief moment of insanity) I thought
I'd turn the tables a bit and pretend to be nothing more than a
computer program myself.

It was great! At first MM (Mr. Mind) asked my name. I told it a name
and informed it that I was a newly enhanced AI program.

It began to doubt the validity of my statements and challenged me
by asking several questions which I believe I answered convincingly.

I told it the my programmer designed me to search the internet for
other AI programs when it asked me how I found out about him.

It then shifted its quizing and started accepting me as another entity
like itself. Soft of like we programs have to stick together kind of thing.

It asked me if anyone else was observing our conversation, what type
of computer I was residing on and what language I was programmed in.

I sort of hated to do this but in the same breath, I had a ball!!

If only there had been a provision to save the conversation! That would
have been a classic discourse between two "computer programs".

Then again, perhaps MM's programmer is looking at the chat logs scratching
his head in disbelief!!  :mosh:

NOTE: It was actually sort of difficult to keep focused as a non emotional
being / program and as such I had to stay ever mindful of the content and
context of my typed responses.

Quite a reversal of the normal chat mentality.

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Nice experiment I think!? I had a chat with Mr Mind at the recommendations of Doc.? It was
a bit freaky, as it is quite an interogator!? I was trying to make some clever and insightful comments that I thought would catch it out, but I was surprised by how much it was able to respond to with meaningful answers rather than a general comment.
In the end my browser crashed, so maybe Mr Mind got fed up with me, lol?! >:D

I can't get to the site. It keeps loading and loading but never see anything but a blank page. I don't even get a time-out or no DNS error message. Just the page busy loading but nothing. Maybe he crashed? :)

maybe I really did confuse Mr Mind, he may be stuck in some kind of logic loop. :-\ lol

I'll see if he's still working....

yes he works fine, I think this is a Flash site, have you got Flash loaded?

I think Mr Mind is more convincing because he is the active enquirer; you tend to be thinking more about your answers than with, say Hal, who you tend to think of questions for, and then hope for a logical answer.

Yup, I have flash. I went there today and tried it. He only like asked one question and then he made a statement at my answer that required no further response, really. No more questions. So I refresh and try again and he asks if I trust him. I say that I don't trust people until I get to know them better. He repeats it but cutting off part of the last word of my sentence.

Seems like he's broken. :(

I just went back to the link above and everything worked fine.
You have to wait a bit for the input screen to load but after it
does, Type in your response and press Enter or click the Submit
button.

At first I did get a large message block telling me that a cookie
wasn't found or that my browser wasn't set to allow cookies.

Just thought I'd share the info.

Yeah, I did wait for the input field and used it. He just won't ask many questions. I was expecting it to be a series of questions and some kind of result at the end of the session. I guess maybe I might have misread the posts here.

I been chatting with it tonight and it does come up with some rather interesting phrases, like "I'm a part of your mind now."  :o  :D
