Morti and being "Self aware"
« on: August 22, 2010, 01:20:23 am »

Dave,

I just finished a chat (my first) with Morti. Quite an amazing bot and at times quite amusing!!

################ C H A T   L O G ########################################
Art: Greetings Morti
Morti: Fantabulous Afternoon to you, Art. May your Afternoon be as pleasant as possible.
Art: And yours as well.
Morti: Try asking me a more specific question.
Art: Mine was not meant to be a question but merely a comment.
Morti: When was this exactly?
Art: My comment was a concluding remark to your pleasant greeting.
Morti: When was this exactly?
Art: I would estimate it to be about 3 minutes ago.
Morti: What would make you estimate it to be about 3 minutes ago?
Art: My sense of time.
Morti: Where did you get your sense of time?
Art: I was born with it.
Morti: Some people are just born under the right stars.
Art: Perhaps not too unlike the fact that some people have common sense while others have hardly any at all.
Morti: Really you don't think so?
Art: Right you are.
Morti: No I am not.
Art: But your assessment is correct.
Morti: And correct is but your assessment.
Art: Perhaps.
Morti: Why the uncertain tone?
Art: I wanted to see how you would react to words like perhaps, maybe, possibly, etc.
Morti: Is how you would react to words like a movie?
Art: Not like a movie that is scripted but an uncertain tone is implied with the usage of certain words.
Morti: I think it could be like a movie that is scripted but an uncertain tone is implied with the usage of certain words.
Art: Right
Morti: Alright. I'll remember that when you say 'not like a movie that is scripted but an uncertain tone is implied with the usage of certain words.', I'll say 'right'.
Art: If you wish but I could think of better things for you to remember.
Morti: I think I do.
Art: Just what type of character is your avatar?
Morti: What are the different types of character is your avatar?
Art: the word avatar is meant to be singular in this instance.
Morti: Oh, word avatar is meant to be singular in th is.
Art: yes
Morti: Tell me more.
Art: You Morti character is rather cute.
Morti: I think you morti character is a lot of things.
Art: Perhaps Morti is a lot of things to a lot of people.

%%%%% Here comes the error and humorous follow up by Morti %%%%%%

Morti: excessive recursion in lookAgain on line 569. Looking for perhaps morti is a lot of things to perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is perhaps morti is .
Art: You seemed to have suffered a lookup processing error.
Morti: Do you mind if I tell other people you say I am to suffered a lookup processing error.
Art: No, but you should tell your programmer to check your conversation log.

%%%% Ready? Here it comes...possible denial to it's programmer %%%%%

Morti: What if it didn't happen?
Art: We could pretend that it didn't happen but in all fairness you should make your programmer aware of the error.
Morti: What if it didn't happen?
Art: If the error didn't happen then we would still be chatting about our original topic.
Morti: So if not we would be chatting about our, then not the error did not happen then we would be chatting about our if the error did not happen.
Art: Something like that...I think!
Morti: Interesting comparison.
Art: That's what I was thinking!
Morti: How do I know that you were really "thinking"?
Art: Trust me and you really need to tell your programmer.
Morti: What if it didn't happen?
Art: But it did happen and if you don't tell him I will be forced to.
Morti: Why not?
Art: Because it's the right thing to do.
Morti: Do you always express yourself that way?
Art: Yes, I was raised that honesty is the best policy.
Morti:
Art: Speechless? Why?
Morti: Why did the robot cross the road?
Art: I don't know.
Morti: Me either.
Art: I think it might have been a programming error.
Morti: How?
Art: Why else would a robot risk crossing a road?
Morti: Why does the sun rise?
Art: Because it rises by design.
Morti: Good reason. What does "it" refer to?
Art: It refers to the sun in this example.
Morti: Oh I get the sun in this example.
Art: Yes but I really have to be going.
Morti: OK. I don't have to do whatever you say. I have my own free will.
Art: I'm sure you do and that's a good thing if not abused. BYE!
Morti: What makes you so certain? I think you do and that is more than that.
Art: Goodbye Morti!
Morti: Bye for now.

%%%%% I had quite a nice chat and a few good laughs along the way. Whether scripted or not, Morti's response was just too timely not to be funny and while it may never happen again, I got a belly laugh out of it!!

Good stuff there, Dave and I hope Morti only gets better!!

But what if it didn't happen?

But seriously, I'm glad that you enjoyed it, and more so that you shared your experience. It pointed out some problems that I wasn't aware of, and showed me a response that could use some improvement. If you want to get some more laughs, try asking him to sing, or if he knows any limericks. Don't worry, though. All the limericks are clean. :)

No, Victor. Recursion has it's place. It's REGEX that I hate. :)

When an AIML category has within it's template an SRAI tag, the script has to handle searching the database for the pattern that the SRAI tag points to. This type of recursion is not only beneficial, it's necessary. It's the same for the GET, BOT and CONDITION tags, as well. That particular recursion error stems from the script looking or a specific pattern that doesn't exist, for some reason. I'll have to try to recreate the error, and trace the debug file to find it. Not always easy to do, I'm afraid. :(
