Hi folks,
I'm still working on the collection site, working on the look today. I was inspired by some nice backgrounds I found the other day. Took me ages to decide on something though. I came up with this for a background. How is it ? Does it look too colourful or is it okay ?
I'm not sure about the look of the logo, might need to change that font. Hmmm...
Comments please :)

I made the logo text a little bigger, seems better now.
-
Yes I like the image in your second post better Freddy.
-
The bigger font ? Ok doke.
-
The page background looks nice, Freddy. Is it a single image, or do you have it styled, so as to adjust to the screen width?
-
Thanks :) I spent all morning and a good part of the afternoon working on the graphic.
It's a single image in fixed position centrally. So the wider your screen the more of it gets shown.
In 1024 width you don't get much of it really, but I might just reduce the width of the main content to show a little more.
Because it's fixed; when you scroll the background stays where it is. I tried with the default scrolling method and I felt there was too much movement. It seems better to have it fixed to me.

A simple and modern layout, at the same time easy to navigate, which is what the users really want and need.
One comment, not really related to the page in question, large fonts look very last decade, avoid them. If I was to be picky maybe the logo needs something, don’t ask me what though, no hang on somethings coming to me…
A little robot in the logo falling asleep in the letter C or a robot standing with his back to the first letter.
The entire logo tipping over to the right, looking like its going to fall over, (it’s a very large collection) but a little robot saves the day by holding it up.
Saying that,,, what you have is cool and I do indeed like it. :)
-
Which large fonts do you mean ? The links on the right ? I don't think they look tooo out of date. It was actually inspired by a site layout I saw on a CSS3 help site lol, so that's pretty modern. I thought the different font sizes worked well together ::) Ho hum.
But yeah, the logo I am not entirely happy with. I do have some robots, but as for their poses I am not sure, will have to take a look.
Thanks for the input :)
-
Hmm...thinking again....reducing the font size on the front page (that's the main place I use larger font size) would mean on the 1024 resolution I would be able to show more of the background...because I could shrink the main container.
-
Found this rather cute little robot. He's looking in the right direction. There's not really enough room in the letter to get him to sit in it.
-
Sorry been on the phone..
Really I was only thinking about the logo Freddy and its font size, I have a kind of rule I try to stick to.
If the logo is only text with no effects, keep it as small as I can, but if you start adding things to it,, take the huge google logo, you can get away with larger text size.
Maybe out of 6 ideas I have one would be usable, the robots were just some ideas.
I prefer the second robot pic above.
-
Yeah, it's funnny, the logo is always the hardest part for me. Still not happy with it. I think your idea of the robot is a winner though.
How about something like this....with a view to changing the font on the logo.
-
I like the way he looks at the page content in that one.
-
Cool, well that's it for me today. Thanks for the input everyone, cya tomorrow. :)
-
I don’t know if this one would blend in with the background exactly right, I made it with a close background colour match, but if nothing else a reflection on the logo would match the AI Dreams one.
Again just a thought :)
-
Freddy,
I definitely like the cuterobot3 image better than any others. O0
-
I agree. It looks like he is checking the site out.
-
Great, I will stick with that then. :)
-
I tried Data's logo. I wasn't sure at first but I quite like it. I did reduce it's size.
-
BTW, what program did you use to make the 3D text Datahopa ?
-
When I make logos or things like that it normally takes quite a few attempts before im happy with it, so im not surprised you had to re-size it.
I like the reflection, but if it doesn’t make it into the final page, well I don’t mind at all.
To make 3D text I use an old program called Fireworks 3, I think the program has now been taken over buy Adobe and has probably had many up-dates and add-ons but for what I do, its good enough.
To put reflection on images I use this site, very handy and free.

OK thanks. I will try it without the reflection at some point to compare.
I went off at a tangent today and have been playing with the Amazon API. Some of the restrictions make life difficult, I spent about four hours working out a way to limit API calls to no more than one per second. I think I cracked it though. And finally things have started to take shape in my mind about how to go about this. It's been interesting so far. Doubt I will be done till next week some time though.

Half the battle is working out what to do, I’m sure you’ll get there Freddy.
-
I do like Datahopa's reflective 3D text but is there a way for either of you to perhaps make the reflection
stand out a wee bit more without overtaking the main text?
If so then you'd have a solid 9.5 in my book. (it's extremely rare that anyone ever get's a 10 in my book for whatever reason).
Kudos!!
-
When I put the reflection on the image I used 50%, it would easy to make it 100% and I think it would just about fit in the space too.
We could also make it an animated gif that would switch between “ChatterbotCollection†and “Art For Presidentâ€.
That might get us the last remaining .5 points. :D ;)

HAHHAHA!! Nice one Data!! OK...it's a 10!!! ;D
