To go with the new server we have a new look.
I've had my eye on this theme for a while and like it's clean look and layout. I've modded it to add some of the features we had with the old theme.
I felt it was time for a change and this is nice and responsive.
On the main forum page it will show the avatar of the person who last posted in the board. The icons are nicer than the old ones I think, and links are easier to see and use.
See what you all think.
The options or actions for a thread are in the blue drop down now. As shown.
CTRL + F5 will do a hard refresh if things look odd.
-
I like the new theme and "feel" of the site. It is definitely a lot faster with responses and postings. (even here across the big pond!).;)
Good job and I for one certainly appreciate your hard work during these past many days.
Cheers!
-
Looks nice Freddy...good job.

Nice facelift... really freshened the site up...
The login box that appears on the right panel/ boarder above recent topics kept giving a time out error, though the main login (top left) let me straight in.
Main page still slow (because of links to chatbots I presume) but rest of site is WAY faster... nice.
:)
-
Thanks all :)
Yes I think it's much better now. Very pleased with the speed 8)
I've added a few new avatars which can be chosen in your profiles - Comic, Nature, Statues, Robots and Cute.

Okay thanks, I may remove that one then, since there is the one at the top now.

Yes, it's still trying to draw the content from the old server at the moment. Hopefully it will sort itself out soon.
-
Looking good. Seems much faster too.
-
Thanks SB :)
The home page has kicked in now for me, I think that should be most of it done now.
-
Hoola! Us and the robots like the new site!
-
Good to hear :)
Looks like SSDs are the way forward for websites. 8)
-
You've done a cracking job there Freddy.
It's the speed of the site that stands out to me, ultra quick now on the SSD :bouncy:
Also I had a few small compatibility problems using Edge with the old site, they seem to have completely gone now. O0
-
Chrome and Edge users - Have any of you chaps got oval avatars displaying in the topics ?
Also do you have the members badges off center ?
For better understanding of what I mean please check the attachment.
Thanks for your time :)
-
Nope...sorry mate. Seems that it's just yours. Then again, a few of your close friends said you've been a bit off for years! Oops!! I meant, your avatar thing.
Maybe you could run for President and reside in the ...what else...Oval Office! :2funny:
OK...I'll stop for now...you know it's all in good fun Data! (I hope).;)
Here is a screen cap of your avatar taken with Chrome. Edge also had the same result. (no issues).
-
I like the new theme very much.
However, I seem to be experiencing an error on login:
An Error Has Occurred!
Your session timed out while posting. Please go back and try again.
-
Yep this is being looked into.
For now click on the link highlighted in this screenshot and it will take you to a more reliable login.
-
Okay I have made some alterations.
The button up top now leads to the reliable login page mentioned above, which in addition allows you to choose session length.
Let me know if this is working ok or not please :)
-
Ok I logged in for 1 minute…
I know I’m being picky but… on a long thread having to scroll right to the top (I do see the goto top icon) and then having to scroll all the way back down to where you want to post… well it hurts my wheel mouse finger. Perhaps a logon at the bottom or next to the print icons... or... a goto bottom icon at the top may be? lol.
I went to reply after 1 minute and it took me to the logon screen. Cool... working fine.
:)
-
Why don't you just stay logged in ?
-
BTW, I am keen to keep members fit, so any exercise to that mouse wheel finger is good ^-^
-
I was just testing the login page lol.
I've also just noticed the 'Go Down' next to the page numbers... my bad.
:)

I hadn't noticed that, well spotted O0

This should be better now. I altered the width where the right blocks disappear so the layout looks right now. It has meant that the side panel disappears below a bit sooner, but it's about the best I could do due to space restrictions. I don't think it will affect most people on desktops at least. Actually for smaller screens it's probably better now as it means not so much is squeezed in.
CTRL + F5 may be needed.

Appearance looks fine here. Only, I can't connect from the home page. I have to be inside the forum to connect. But it's not important.
I really like the new look'n feel.
-
So fast my refresh arrow doesn't change!

Same here. I'll see if I can think of anything.

Hehe, yes very quick now :)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
We were all thinking that weren't we!
On my laptop. Uhm...what happened to the side bar with the latest posts....man do I use that....its the life of the forum - I basically never look through the threads, instead I usually keep updated on most posts by using the bar.
Oh there yous are, right below this post...found the bar.
Don't forget - you can always click n drag the scroll bar, or right click where you want and goto, or use a touch screen hehe. Or teleportation/timetravel/levitation.
-
You might find the "Recent Unread Topics" link up the top near your avatar useful.
Typically if you fix one thing, you break something else :idiot2:
-
"Updated Topics" is giving me a database error.
-
Anyone else getting that ? Works here.
-
I'm still getting it.
Database Error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.
-
Yup I get the error :o
-
Hmm, seems to be an error that crept in with the forum update, due to the set up of MYSQL. There's no fix on the SMF forum.
I will monitor it.
-
Yep, secure the perimeter and monitor the situation. ;)
:D
-
To be honest, now III have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the forum, to get to the recently replied-to threads.
-
Not if you click the link I said about...
-
I have to max out my window to get "recent topics" side panel to pop in. Other wise i do not see it. It is my only way to
get into "General AI Discussion". It has been removed from the main directory.
-
Removed ? It should still be there - did you collapse the section ?
Screenshots help.
-
On mine, I've noticed that if I grab the left side edge and move it to the right, that section disappears. Moving to the left allows room for it to appear once again. My browser window is Not set to whole screen either, but this is one of those "free" added features! O0 ;)
(Browser: Firefox, Chrome, etc.)
What happens is than when your horizontal size is a bit "tight" or narrow, that Recent Topics section will drop down under the AIDreams Forum - Info Center section.
Once you widen it as mentioned above, the Recent Topics section will move up and be to the right side of the page under your Profile avatar.
As Moe of the Three Stooges used to say, "Spread Out!" ;)
So widen your browser window a bit and all should be good once more.
-
Found the new bar.
-
Yes Art is right, the idea behind it is to support more devices and their screen sizes - they're called adaptive pages - it adapts to the size of the browser/screen. This allows mobiles, desktop and tablets etc to be supported without another version of the site being made especially.
-
If it's bugging many people I can always change it back.
-
My take is that both the lengthened threads and bar at the bottom are annoying, but bar more so, because you more often have to GET TO THAT BAR, and don't mind the lengthened posts...I think...
Hard decision.
Gonna look for the button.
Not that button.
-
Wait our posts are still long-ish, might as well bring back the bar's true form then. Less bad for more good therefore.
-
I like it... @ lock just widen your browser window,.. or click 'Go Down' next to the page numbers at the top,
Works fine for me.
:)
