Adding more fuel to the fire there is now the 3D turtle which, it is claimed, gives consciousness to machines.

See the video here...

Wonder if we could combine turtles and Hal ?

If so, Sandee would like a couple.

I remain quite skeptical about the dubious claims of true AI. Gee...just what I want
to do for my robot project...install hundreds of sensors around my house because
that way, I wouldn't have to work so hard to program my robot's brain or provide
it with camera (eyes). It would just be sensing where all the "objects" in the house
were located instead of being more of an "intelligent" nature and learning what
and where the objects are due to it's own program.

I can see some potential for these turtles but they would only create a much
dumbed down robot, IMO.

Just my $.02
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Yes, it would seem to limit the range of the bot too, I mean you'd have to have a whole house set up that way for it to work well enough, with every chair you'd need a turtle and thats just the chairs...

Aaah! But if you made a smart robot with A.I. and it had built-in sensor's and
camera's for eye's. The poor company that has invested in making the remote
turtle sensor's wouldn't be able to make more than their share of money by
providing the sensor's to equip entire houses instead of building smart robots.  ;)

Hmm, I wonder which method will provide the best solution, I reckon the programming will take a lot longer to figure out than the sensor alternative.
