automatization and working hours
« on: August 05, 2014, 12:52:14 pm »
I remember one video from Youtube: after the world war 1., America fell into a crisis after automatization took the most of working places. Then Americans thought of the plan: they will produce low quality products that will last just for a year, so another products could be made for the market in shorter interval (even my sister, who is a textile technologist, told me that Levi's treats its jeans with some acid to make it last exactly for one year, even though jeans should be very quality and lasting product - remember cowboys?). The plan worked, crisis was out of America and everyone was happy.

Now I can't help thinking that the same result could be produced in shorter working hours. Are we going by wrong way with dismission of folks with other folks working 8 hours a day? Could all of us work just 2 hours a day with equal or even better result of creating  quality products? Something has to be terribly wrong if this is possible and we are then being led by the wrong people.

Maybe I'm wrong with that quality theory, but at least we could split 8 working hours to four men instead to one. And if quality products are produced then splitting grows by some order of magnitude.

The problem would then be payment. How to pay four times more people? Is there enough money for all of them? :(

Me, I really only want enough money to live on, being rich or very well off doesn't interest me, a part time job is fine, look at all the hours I have left over to do what I want.  O0

Admittedly I don't have any children it's just me and my girl friend of 24 years, a family man would probably want a full time job, but who in their right mind has kids  ;D

Interesting topic  :)
